My sister graduates with her DPT next month and I don't know what to give her as a gift. I thought about giving her money but I already helped finance some of the costs of tuition. Is there something (other than money) that would be good for new PTs ? Perhaps a membership to a professional organization or journal subscription? Do PTs use any equipment (she's prob going to work inpatient pediatrics? ) I want to give her something useful.
Any suggestions would be great! TIA
Re: physical therapists?
A membership to the APTA would be ok. It's something she'd have to renew when it expires of course. I was in it when I first graduated but honestly, she could get a student discount on it and then the price goes way up and I chose not to renew it.
My brother gave me a really nice frame/shadowbox type thing to display my diploma.
I'm not sure what type of equipment she'd use in inpatient pediatrics besides toys. If she works with adult inpatient populations I could suggest equipment.
My husband is in a DPT program right now and I guess the gift depends on where she will be working (if she knows). If she'll be in a hospital setting, a personalized/embroidered scrub set would be nice with her name on it and DPT after it. She should already have a white coat from school, otherwise that would be a good idea as well. My husband is a clinic now where they asked him to wear sweat pants and a t-shirt every day, so again I guess it depends where she will be working
. As far as equipment, I think they are given everything they need at their sites.
Hope that helps a little bit!
