Hi there.... I am going to me moving to North Charleston in the next couple of weeks and would LOVE any information you can tell me about the area!!! Best area to live in, schools, doctors, pediatricians, places to eat, places to shop...anything! I have been in FL for 25 years and was a New Englander before that so I am totally lost when it comes to SC. We are currently looking in the Summerville area; heard the Dorchester II school district is best???
TIA!
Re: Moving to Charleston!
I've lived in Charleston my whole life and it is wonderful! The Dorchester 2 school district is definitely the best, with Berkeley County as a close 2nd. I went to Dorchester District 2 schools and later worked in a Dorchester 2 school - the administrators and district administrators were wonderful.
I really think that living off upper Dorchester Road is wonderful. You're pretty much in the middle of everything. It's close to grocery stores, clothing stores, schools, and there are some pretty great places to eat too!
I hope you enjoy living in Charleston as much as I have!
I personally would not live in N. Chas but that is just me.
Summerville is nice and the schools are good, from what I hear. I'm a Mount Pleasant fan though, they do have good schools as well though we will probably go private for DS.
Not too much help on doctors, but I delivered DS at East Cooper in Mt P and had a wonderful experience.
Me too. It might have improved slightly back back in 2007 North Charleston was rated the 7th worse crime in the country. North Charleston may have a few nice neighborhoods, but honestly the majority of the population of that city is not the highest caliber, hence the crime rating. And just because you live in a nice house doesn't mean the riff raff of the city won't be shopping at the same grocery stores as you, same gas stations etc.
If your choice is between Summerville and N. Chas, go with Summerville. From what I've heard the school systems are better and you won't be living in the ghetto.
I also agree with PP. I live in Mt. Pleasant and would never leave. Its nicer and safer than all the surrounding towns. Yes its more expensive, but the cost is worth it to live in such a desirebale location around Charleston.
We found a place in North Charleston/Summerville... LOVE the area. Will be coming up for good in about 3 weeks!
BTW I am a family photographer for anyone interested. : )
