Marathoners?

I've seen in some siggys that some of you here are runners, or at least have ran a 1/2 or full marathon.

I ran my first half last year and signed up for the full this year.  Any advice on training? or what programs you suggest?

I used Hal Higdon to train for my half and am debating between using him again or the Nike training posted on Chicago marathon's website.  Any recs?

Re: Marathoners?

  • I'm a huge fan of Hal Higdon as well. I ran my first 10 mile in October and I'm currently training for the Chicago Half in May. Thinking the full might be 2012's goal. I've had great luck with Hal all the way so far, so I'll probably stick with him.

  • i've used hal's plans for 4 halfs and one full and have had great experiences. i think if you're going to train for a full, you really have to find the plan that best fits your schedule, because it is a big time commitment. i used the intermediate plan for my halfs, and dropped down the the novice 2 plan for my full because i couldn't make the intermediate work with my schedule without really burning out. good luck!

  • I ran the full last year, it was amazing. The heat was a killer, though, but I guess running on the lakefront every week prepared me for it...no shade, no clouds, just heat!  I followed Hal's novice plan for the marathon, and use his intermediate for all my 1/2's. Best advice: train in and be prepared for all weather conditions.  You never know what to expect with Chicgao.
