Fit Chicks Check-in

I should not even be in charge of this!  I failed so bad this weekend.  And the scale agreed since it is at a stand-still.  I did squeeze in a quick run on Saturday, but after yesterday's escapades (restaurant mexican food, Coronas, and ice cream cake), it pretty much got canceled out.  And Friday night was date night so besides a quick work-out there Wink again, beers and dinner canceled anything out.  Oy.  So since this week is looking to be a pretty promising week weather-wise, I'm excited about being able to get some good runs in at least!   I'll have to plan a good long one for Thursday since we'll be having boiled dinner that night!  Other than that, I've got turkey chili on the menu, zucchini and turkey bacon quiche and side salad, and grilled cheese and soup for the night we both have meetings.

What's new with you ladies?

Re: Fit Chicks Check-in

  • Last week went okay for me. I ran 3 times and did a dvd once. I tracked my food during the week, which seemed to help the scale move slightly back in the right direction after my glutenous vacation and Maine Restaurant Week! Although yesterday was a bit of a setback with a splurge at Cold Stone (which I ate while we were driving past a 5K race that I have run in the past- talk about guilt!!) We have been having some pretty healthy dinners with more fish and salad then normal, so that's been going well.

Started off with a dvd workout this morning (Level 2 of Jillian's 6 pack dvd- Annie have you tried it yet? Yikes!) I am taking a personal day tomorrow, so I am planning to run then, then maybe again on Thursday, dvd on Friday, then a run on the weekend.

Back to tracking food today and I haven't really planned meals for the week yet, but we have some soup and meat in the freezer we need to use.

  • I've been to the gym for 6 of the last 7 days and have burned over 800 calories each time I go. I started tracking my nutritional information with My Fitness Pal, which is definitely making me accountable. I don't force myself to be as on top of it over the weekend since we had dinner out on Saturday and then had dinner at my ILs yesterday, but I track everything during the week. I'm down 3 pounds in the past month, but my composition has changed so that I'm a bit more muscle and a bit less fat.

I tried on my wedding dress last week and can get it on and zipped, but no way in hell can I breath. My goal is to get back to wedding dress shape or better. My DH spent most of yesterday telling me how proud he was of me since I've been such a gym devote since we joined in January.

We declared yesterday that the gym isn't just to get us in shape at this point, but to keep us that way. It's no longer a short term, but more of a long term, life long commitment that we have to make. Now I just need to get him going half as much as I do and we'll be making good progress.

  • The last 2 weeks have been pretty rough for me, but yesterday I got into the gym and did my 7-miler on the treadmill. The first few miles were just agony. Shin splints, side cramps, sports bra support failure, and my headphones were busted so I had no TV or music to keep me company. But after about 3 miles I found my groove and was able to alternate a slower pace with speed intervals for the last 4 miles and felt good by the end.

After a long run I tend to pig out, though, because I crash about 1/2 hour after I finish running and no amount of calories seems to satisfy me! At least it was just a big salad and some baked chicken.

This week I'm forcing myself back on the wagon, with a 5 miler tomorrow night, Zumba on Wed., 3 miles on Thurs. and 8 miles this weekend. M might come to the gym and do a speed workout with me on Thurs., and I'm pretty sure that when it comes to running, my "fast" is his "slow" - so it could be painful!

Food-wise, I'm eating a lot of cereal, Chobani with nuts, and cleaning out my freezer till payday! :)

I was bad this weekend.  I did track my food, but splurged a lot and definitely went over my calorie budget for the week.  I'm ready to be back on track this week.  I didn't exercise at all last week due to a bad cold and some achey knees, but I'm feeling better all around, so I'm going to try to get that motivation back this week also.  I'm excited about the warm weather and longer days, so at least we'll get outside for some walks after work.  We had boiled dinner last night, and maple mustard chicken cutlets from CL and pasta e ceci (chick pea) soup for later in the week, with some leftovers in between (boiled dinner turned into hash to have with eggs).

  • Nice job, Hiking!  6 out of 7 days is impressive.

As expected, I had a terrible Fit Chicks week - Restaurant Week was my best friend this time around - I even snuck in a night in Boston and took advantage of their RW, too.  And with more visitors, it was just too tempting to show off all the great food Portland has to offer.

However, they are gone - and my terrible cold is finally coming to and end, so today will start my 30 Day Shred re-up.  I was up to day 8 when I got sick and was so upset I couldn't keep going.

I still have to make my menu for the week and head to the grocery store - I'm usually all about CookingLight.com, but I just dug out the cheesy Bride & Groom cookbooks we got for our wedding and there are some really great looking recipes in them, so I might pull a few from there and tweak them to be as healthy as possible.

  • Last week went pretty well.  I met my goal of working out 5 out of 7 days.  Food was reasonable and I've been watching dessert portions again because I felt myself starting to slip in that department.

This week, it should be easy to get exercise in 6 out of the 7 days because I'm taking today and tomorrow off and working from home on Friday.

Food, however, I will have to be careful about.  I'll be eating pizza tonight at the condo association annual meeting and corned beef and cabbage on Thursday.  We may also get pizza leftovers (the board members usually take home about a pizza apiece).  Also, next Saturday I am hosting my sister's bridal shower AND we are going out for a nice dinner to celebrate her upcoming elopement.  Yikes; writing all this down has made me realize I'm in trouble this week!  I think I'll try to make my exercise sessions as long as possible to help make up for it.  I did show restraint at Starbucks this morning and only ordered a tall coffee.

  • Other than the monstrosity of a fried haddock sandwich I took down on Saturday (see PP), I was pretty good overall last week. I was able to do my pilates/yoga routine four out of five days, and was pretty good about keeping my eating in check. I justified the mass of fried deliciousness on Saturday as a special treat, and made sure that my mom and I went for a long walk beforehand to help lessen the guilt.

DH comes home on Thursday night (yeah, luck of the Irish!), so my weekend eating will probably take a hit, but the rest of this week I plan on staying on track- Jackie, I'm with you on cleaning out the freezer! Mostly I'll be sticking to lean proteins (chicken, lean pork, fish), lots of fresh fruit & veggies, brown rice or wheat pasta, yogurts and the usual. I should easily be able to get in evening workouts over the next three days, and long walks w/ DH through the rest of the week since the weather is warming up and we both love to walk. I have my next OB appt on Thurs, so I should have a feeling of how I'm gaining then, eek!

Thanks, Laura. It's taking some major mojo on my end to make it happen. I teach from 7AM to 8:30PM on Mondays and Wednesdays, so I'm stuck going to the gym and working out until at least 10PM before going home. And I may or may not have had dinner by then. So I don't typically get to bed before 11:00PM on those days. So I'm absolutely dead. I was mad at myself for not working out on Saturday since all I did was work at home. But, I did have a complete mental/emotional breakdown, so I forgave myself. Being a blubbering mess at the gym just isn't pretty on anyone.

  • I've been doing good, but not happy with the progress. I've lost 10 pounds so far but the scale didn't budge last week. Grrr I can't up the cardio since I'm nursing a sore foot again and I shouldn't cut out any more calories. So, hoping this week the scale budges so it gives me some motivation :)

  • Workouts have been the usual, 5 days of cardio and 3 days of strength training.  We ate out once a day this weekend and one of those days was at Johnny Rockets, which let me just say, was not diet friendly.  Needless to say, I was happy that the scale stayed in the same place.

I have lost 11 pounds total since January so I feel good but I know that I could be putting more effort in.  Maybe I will start that this week!

THIS!  I'm seriously thinking about tracking points until our trip.  I also signed up for a 5K on 3/26 which I will be able to run the whole thing, but slower than a Heinz Ketchup bottle.

I ran three times last week and today dropped Abby off at my Mom's (she took the day off) and ran a complete 5k in 36 minutes.  Menu planning this week:  BLT's tonight, homemade pizza, shrimp scampi, tacos, meatball subs, grilled chicken.  Lots of veggies, turkey bacon, ground turkey, etc.

I track every little thing. I find the accountability really forces me to admit what I've shoved in my face. I also break it out by time of time. So I know that if my count is up there in between lunch and dinner then I wasn't busy enough since I eat if I'm lonely, bored or even just working on my computer. Being able to say, at the end of the day, "that is why you're fat" has totally worked. No more excuses, as my gym says.

I also like MyFitnessPal.com because it will tell you at the end of your day how much weight you can expect to lose in 5 weeks if you kept the same intake/burn ratio. THAT has been huge for me. Knowing that slipping up and eating a bit more than usual yesterday means I won't lose as much in 5 weeks (if I keep that pace) gives me motivation to stick to it more today.

  • I love my fitness pal! DH is using it now too. It's really helped him with portion sizes, etc. Although, the "where you'll be in 5 weeks" never works for me, I've been dieting and exercising for 4 and am past what they say lol. One day, when I was really sick I only ate like 700 calories and it told me if I ate like that every day I'd lose 6 lbs. Umm, think I'd lose more than that! :)

It definitely holds you accountable and it's a gadget thing. I love stuff like that :)

  • Oh can I play?? When I transitioned Riley to crib naps in January I started working out finally (she had been napping on or with me up to then!) and have lost 14 lbs since then. I've also been using My Fitness Pal and I love it! So much easier than other sites I've used in the past. I'm doing the C25K to get back into running shape so I have those 3 workouts a week, plus we do Stroller Strides one day, and the 5th day I usually do an hour of Just Dance 2 on the Wii. Totally addictive and a decent calorie burn!

Anyway, I weigh in on Fridays, but I'm part of a weight loss team at work and at their weigh in today they said I'd lost 2 lbs, so I'm excited to weigh in this week! I'm about 20 lbs from my pre-preg weight, where I'd like to be before we start TTC again. Once we're done with kids I'll probably aim for 10 lbs or so lower than that even.
