Is anyone doing the 60 miles Cancer walk/run?
I wanted to get some more info on it, but the site I found seems pretty limited.

Re: Is anyone doing the 60 miles Cancer walk/run?
I'm not doing it this year, but I did it 2 years ago in San Diego and my in laws are doing it again this year there. It's really an amazing experience...but you definitely need to train. I was religious about walking and following the training plan. My in laws were not and of the 8 of us that walked...only 3 of us finished and walked the whole thing.
I wish I could do it again this year, but with a new baby I just can't dedicate the time needed.
Let me know if you have any questions.
my read shelf:
You do have to raise $2200 in order to walk. I think I raised about $5000. Surprisingly it was pretty easy.
Some of the things I did were:
-I emailed several businesses and surprisingly one got back to me. They gave me $2000 and outfitted my entire team.
-I felt weird asking coworkers for money, so I also put a sign up outside my cute with a thermometer picture on it. It was always a conversation starter and every time I got a donation, I would fill the thermometer up. I was pretty surprised by how many people wanted to donate. Soooo many people are affected by cancer and willing to help find a cure. Plus, people like to get updates about your training...so you have to stay up on that too.
-I also did a bake sale at my work, but I read that you can do them outside stores too.
-I also contacted someone thru scentsy or some other candle seller (can't remember what brand) and they donated some percentage of whatever I sold to my collection. You could do this with Pampered Chef, Passion Parties, etc...just have to find a "seller" who's willing to donate.
-You can do yard sales here the proceeds go to your fund raising. If you put this info on the signs, many time people won't even bargain you down, since it's for charity.
There are actually TONS of ideas on how to raise money on the website, plus there is an introductory meeting that you have to go to and they give tons more ideas.
You can also join teams and a lot of times your teammates can help you out. For instance, since I raised more than the minimum I helped my teammates meet theirs.
I would say, don't be afraid of the money. You never know til you ask, who is willing to help.
I would definitely suggest doing it though...it was an amazing experience. One that I would love to do again someday. Plus, I think it would be awesome to do them around the country, i.e. Boston, Chicago, etc...since you're walking the city you get to see some really cool things that may have missed otherwise.
Good Luck...and sorry this is a novel.
