Hey MY hubby just accepted a job with IBEW as an apprentice, well we are hoping to start ttc once we get every thing figured out. I have a question about if their insurance would cover fertility treatments if need be , and how good the prenatal/ birthing coverage is (see how much co-pay).
any advice would be nice from women who either are in IBEW or husbands are in IBEW

Re: IBEW wives ?
WRT fertility coverage, doesn't that depend on which state you live in?
Hi! My husband is a 4th year apprentice. We live in Indiana, if that matters. We have great insurance. And from what I know (we don't have kids yet) the coverage as far as having a baby is awesome. He has a friend who told him what they ended up owing after thier baby was born and it was crazy how little they had to pay. We also have another account (like health savings sort of thing) that we can use for whatever the insurance doesn't pick up. I don't know about fertility treatments, but I know overall it seemed like really good coverage when I read through everything.
With what they charge the employer for health insurance they should PAY YOU to have a baby.
I do the bookkeeping for an IBEW employer
Isn't that what the money that comes out of his hourly rate/union dues pays for?? We've kept the same insurance through his local reguarless of the employer and even if my husband isn't working...at some point when your "hours" run out you have to pay for your insurance (to keep it if you're unemployed). Thats interesting though, it must be different depending where you live. With the lack of work in our area my husband has been with several different companies in the last year and I can't imagine the hassle of having to change insurance every single time!!
*sorry, I realize this isn't the original topic!
No, the dues is not for health insurance. The employer pays separate PER HOUR amounts for
Health/welfare ( health ins)
Annuity
Pension
And several other funds for education, national dues, supplemental unemployment, etc...
These additional amounts come up to more than 50% of the employees pay
I am an IBEW wife.
It would all depend on your locals health coverage. For instance, I didn't pay anything out of pocket to have either of my children. We had a deductible of 250.00, but the Union picked that up some sort of gap coverage, and we didn't have to pay that either.
As far as fertility treatments that would depend on where you live. Here in RI, the most a person is responsible to pay is 3K per IVF... or something like that. My sis went through it, and her DH's employer was based out of MA, and they covered 100%.
Good Luck!
I'm also an IBEW wife. 134 Journeyman. He has been laid since November. When he signed the books he was told there was about a 2 year wait.
I found your topic just looking on the nest for ibew related posting. I'm trying to find support and advice to help him job search.
