Camping suggestions?

DH & I (in Illinois) plan to meet up with my brother (from Ohio) to go camping this summer. We are opting to meet up in Indiana, the halfway point.

We'll be coming from I-74, he from I-70. Central Indiana is the preferred area. Crawfordsville, IN is the halfway point for both of us, a 3 hour drive (to give you an idea).

Any suggestions for places to go? DH & I would prefer to bring our dogs, so somewhere dog friendly would be a plus (so we don't have to leave them with friends for the weekend).

Although Crawfordsville isn't really Central IN, there is a state park not far from there: Turkey Run State Park.  Another option that's more central is Brown County State Park.

To my knowledge all state parks are dog friendly, but you should contact them directly to find out any restrictions.  Also, there is a Pet Etiquette guide available on the state website: http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2964.htm.

I live in Brown County and the park here is A-MAZING. It's dog-friendly as long as the dog is leashed, I believe. They have some awesome hiking trails and are getting big with mountain bike trails (which can also be for walking/hiking) also. I don't know how "primitive" you want to be, but Yellowwood State Forrest is also in the county and it has a beautiful lake and is definitely a quieter alternative.

Turkey Run is not far from Crawfordsville.  It's a nice park.  Brown Co. is a bit further south is definitely worth the drive.  Beautiful and lots of other attractions besides camping and hiking. 

McCormick's Creek is another option.
