Recommendations for reusable water bottles

Hey all! So as you might have remembered from my intro post a month or so back, my workplace does not allow us to use reusable water bottles, our only options were to buy a mug for 10 dollars from them (that leaks all over the place), or use single-use water bottles (which I've just been refilling every day).

Well, yesterday I accepted a new position at another job, and they don't have a problem with reusable water bottles! Yay! So I'm hoping to find something that will work well for me. Personally I would like a bottle that is similar to the cheap plastic Aquafina bottles I've been using, because they are able to be twisted and sealed closed at the top.  That way, I can throw it in a tote bag, or put it in the freezer, drop it, etc. without worrying about it spilling or leaking. But every reusable bottle I find is usually something like a Thermos, or something that isn't sealable at the top. So I was hoping for some suggestions. Thanks in advance! :)

  • Yay! Sounds like this would fit your needs well http://www.rei.com/product/402188 (and they also come in hard, bpa-free, colourful plastic).

  • I'm just curious what job you did where reuseable water bottles weren't allowed.
  • Wow, how can a job tell you that the only reusable water bottle you can use is the one they sell?  That's crazy!

DH has a couple of the hard versions of the one posted above.  He likes them overall but they're a pain to wash because of the small opening.

I like the wide mouth nalgene bottles.

If you look through the REI website, this one is not what you're looking for. http://www.rei.com/product/776180.  It leaks so you can't put it in a bag.  I learned that the hard way.

Well, I guess now that i've officially put in my 2 weeks notice it's okay to say where I worked, can't get in trouble for "talking badly" about my workplace now lol. I worked for a call center for ADT Security Services as one of their emergency dispatchers. It's a huge call center and they have some ridiculous twisted rules. They USED to allow reusable water bottles when I first worked there, but then they said people were causing problems with it so they changed it, so you could ONLY have a bottled water (like Aquafina or something), or one of their "approved" ADT mugs. No outside containers with the exception of those disposable water bottles. And the mugs are really meant for coffee, they're very small, and they leak EVERYWHERE. FI uses one for his hot tea, and he'll snap the lid on, it'll be dry, tight, and secure, and he'll have me hold it while he drives us to work. The hot tea splashes out of the top (even when it's closed) and leaks all over the place, on my clothes, etc. I hate those things with a fiery passion.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I truly appreciate it! :D

  • I have gone through many a water bottle and I like this one http://www.crateandbarrel.com/dining-and-entertaining/acrylic-glasses/aqua-bobble-/s145036 for portability. It's lightweight and you can refill it from any tap since it has a filter built in. I keep it in my gym bag and haven't have a problem with wet clothes (well, except for once, but it was my own fault for not tightening the lid all the way).
