I'm moving in a few weeks, and my new house is on a shade lot. I want to plant some colorful flowers in my front yard, but I'm not sure what would be best. The space I want to plant them gets sun for a few hours in the middle of the day, and is shady in the morning and afternoon. What do you think would work best?

Re: shady garden
Impatiens do well in shade-
I'm in NJ, so I think 7? I don't know much about gardening, but I like impatients.
It gets direct sunlight for part of the day.

So does my front yard and the impatiens did well for me last year. We also have azaleas and rhododedrin (sp?) and they're doing well.
Well you should have lots of options then!
A few perennials:
Bleeding Heart
Astilbe
Creeping Flocks
Daylillies
