Kitchen Set-1yr or 18months?

I bought G this shopping cart at Target ($7!!).

And my mom bought play food ($2.50!). I am debating whether to give her (or make her one) a stove/sink kitchen set for her 1st birthday or for Christmas (she'll be 18+months). WWYD?

I'd love to give her a 'big' gift for her birthday. If not the kitchen stuff what's another idea? Outdoors toys? (I already have a Cozy Coupe-garage sale steal, last year).

How can her birthday be 2 months away?! I'm not ready for this!

Re: Kitchen Set-1yr or 18months?

  • I got Maddie a little kitchen for her birthday this past weekend that I picked up at Target on clearence and she LOVES playing with it and the pieces that came with it.  It says 18+ on the box.  It lights up and makes noise.  I think that G will like it as well.
  • I think a kitchen is a great present for her birthday.  B has a kitchen and grill and he loves them.  At first it was just fun to take all of the food out of the kitchen, but now he likes pretedning to make supper.

I think a kitchen is great idea. :)  The only thing that would hold me off from buying one right now that is that big indoor toys don't typically have sales this time of year, and I don't buy 'big' stuff without a sale price.

As far as outdoor toys, a Step 2 or Little Tikes slide/climber or a water table would be my two biggest recommendations. Water tables should start showing up for about $30 soon.

  • Maya has a play kitchen as a hand me down from cousins and she really loves it.  She has toy pots/pans, utensils, food, pot holders, etc.

We got her a FP laugh and learn house for her 1st birthday and that was a big hit.  My sister got her one of the smaller Barbie powerwheels.  Those were her bigger 1st birthday presents that went over well.

  • We bought Wes a riding toy for his birthday. My mom got him a water/sand table for outside. We'll just use water this summer, I think. My brother bought him a tunnel that I think he will LOVE. My sis has gotten him the Little People farm and zoo, and those are big hits! I do wish Wes had a walk behind toy (like the shopping cart) to encourage him to walk. He's still not interested in anything but crawling and occasionally cruising.
