Surprise 33rd birthday ?
I posted below about turning 33 in '11 but got no responses. What would you make the theme for a surprise 33rd birthday? I'm just not very creative when it comes to these things I'm afraid

The 33 in '11 kinda confused me -- is it just interesting because it's 3x11?
If the guest of honor would be game for it, you could always "recreate" their third birthday party. Do childlike games and decorations. Something like a "forever young" theme.
You could also turn "3 x 11" into a theme -- three flavors of cupcakes with eleven toppings; three types of booze with eleven mixers...
33 isn't really a "milestone" birthday, so a theme party seems like it would be awkwardly insignificant unless you/your group traditionally throws theme parties for everything (which I'm totally for, you just didn't inidicate if this was the case...).
The only thing of significance with 33 that I can think of is that is the age Jesus was when he was crucified... You could go with a Last Supper Theme??? Not really sure what you are looking for since it isnt really a milestone like the pp mentioned. What month is it in? Maybe you could plan it around a holiday theme.
Otherwise some fun "themes" for an adult bday party are toga party(roman theme), fiesta (mexican food, red chili decor), rock & roll, 80's Flashback, 30's Flashback, Casino Party, Disco Party.
Ideas for invites: A Surprise Cheers to 33 Years (you can do this to any year really), Dans 21st (+12 years experience) Surprise Fiesta {insert any theme there}. Once you pick a theme you can get a lot of help on this board with party ideas.

You could rent a luxury box at a sporting event and just invite a handful of people.
Set up a paintball match for him and his buddies to recapture his youth.

Have a party at home with awesome food like a taco vendor, hot dog vendor or even a food truck.
