Yes, when I was pregnant with DS I had it bad.  My cousins is a physical therapist and he gave me several stretches to do a few times a day - they worked wonders.

the only one I can remember right now is: lay flat on your back with your knees up (and feet flat on the floor).  Bend your knees to one side to stretch, bring them back up, bend them to the other side to stretch, repeat.

also, do your kegels!  he told me that kegels help too.

  • I did. I found that wearing a maternity support belt helped a little with mine.

  • I did during pg and I used to put a heating pad on it a lot.  It continued after I had G and I wear and Amber necklace from inspired by finn for it and it helps a lot.

Oh yeah, I forgot that my cousins recommended one of those too.

  • I had it too.  Another stretch you can do is to stand beside a table almost waist high, like your kitchen table lift your leg to rest on its side on top of the table and lean into it.  You will feel a nice stretch in your butt.  Do it on both sides though, not just the side that is bugging you.

On this site, the last picture of the guy laying on the floor is what i'm talking about...but put your leg on a table, since being pg will make it nearly impossible to get into this position on the floor! Good luck!

  • I had it pre-pregnancy as the result of an accident then again when I was pg with DD.  I had tons of physical therapy the first time around, and the basic thing they taught me was to stretch the back, butt, hip, and quad as much as possible to keep those muscles from getting tight and pinching the nerve.  If' it doesn't inflame the sciatica, they also suggested walking as much as possible.  One caveat is that all the stretches should feel good and like they are stretching your muscle.  Don't do anything that seems to be inflaming the sciatica.

The stretches I liked best were child's pose; laying on my back and hugging my knees to my chest (not as easy to do while pg); laying on my back, putting one ankle on the opposite knee then pulling the leg that is supporting the other towards my chest, repeat on the opposite side; laying on my side, bending the top knee over to the floor, putting the opposite hand on the bent knee then twisting my upper body over with the other arm out straight trying to lay my shoulder blades flat on the floor; and lunges.

  • The chiropractor was the only thing that helped me.
  • I haven't, but we do some poses in yoga that were supposed to help.  All have been mentioned here except one.

Sit on the floor with legs extended straight in front of you.  Cross right leg over left thigh.  Then use arms to cradle the crossed leg like a baby, with your knee in your right elbow and your left arm around your lower calf.  (this sounds weird but is easy) Swing back and forth from the waist, kind of like rocking a baby.  Switch.

  • Mine started when having to get shots while in the process of doing IVF...the needled were long and DH hit it on both sides, i could barely walk.  one side stayed painful for whole PG and has been there ever since, but better since not PG- yours prob will not be like mine since developed differently and will be ok after PG.  I  find/found that putting a pillow between my knees helped relieve some pain.  a chiro/PT could give some good exercises that are safe while PG too.

  • my bff has it and it hurts like hell.  She has been going to the chiropractor and she has said it helps alot
