Channel 6 just posted something about them and people are commenting like crazy. And I saw another Nestie posted about them.
I don't have any imput because we don't have one yet.
Do you have one? What do you think of them? What do you think about people saying it is making them physically ill?
I'm curious.
Re: Discussion: Smart Meters
we have one. Last month I was getting ready for work and our power went off for a few seconds. I looked outside and their we installing it.
Our bill has gone up 20.00 since having it installed.
What's a smart meter? I want one (said in Elf voice).
I read this and think it tells you haw smart someone is so you can decide if you want to waste your time talking to them or not.
I can picture this from your H.
Speaking of your ILs. I saw your oldest SIL over the weekend.
ditto all of this!
I don't think I have one yet. I'm pretty sure I saw the meter reader come by last month.
I think it's silly in this day and age not to have the smart meters.
I think the people who say they are making them ill are nutso and/or don't understand the difference between correlation and causation. Maybe they should try making bigger tin foil helmets so the aliens don't read their thoughts, either.
We've had one for at least a month. I don't think our bill has changed at all like the PP said.
My DH actually programmed a machine that put some of the Smart Meters out there together (YAY for jobs in Maine). It is no different than having a cell phone or wireless router in your house. They are all on similar wave lengths and there is no research saying that they actually cause any health effects other than diminishing the amount of emissions CMP has from their trucks driving around everywhere. So, in a way, we are doing our part to save the environment.
I think it is silly to protest it on health grounds.
There are wireless signals all around you that are not going to make you any more or less sick if you add a smart meter to the mix. I don't think we need to "study the effects" because they have already been studied with cell phones, wireless routers, satellite dishes, radios. Even if you don't own something that emits or receives signal, you neighbor does, your work does, every business, school, and hospital does. You will not die faster with a smart meter.
I do think that maybe bills could go up since they can get more accurate readings. They can also check the reading more often and charge different rates for peak consumption times. But it we used the power we should pay for it.
We have one and our bill has been the same or has gone down by $20.00. I'm all for it. I have no problem with them.
We took this meter around everyday things in a class I took and you wouldn't believe the things that produce some SERIOUS emissions. I can't imagine something on the outside of your house would really affect you more than your computer, etc etc etc.
I don't know if we have one, but it just seems like something that is moving with the times. Unfortunately, it seems like the more people that opt out, the more expensive they will be.
we had ours installed a while ago (at the house we rent)...I haven't really noticed a difference...not that I was in a position to deny installation
and even though I have one, I thought this post was about the credit card parking meters, which they keep saying they will start testing in downtown Portland sometime soon (which I am quite excited about, BTW)
