Oh MH

He got a raise yesterday (yay!), but, like every other time he has gotten a raise, he doesn't know how much it is! Every time they tell him (verbally) how much and then he's like "I don't remember how much they said it was." How can you not remember??? That is the reason to work - to make money!

Re: Oh MH

  • MH got a raise and a bonus and honestly didn't know for how much. He tried to get it out of his boss for like a month, and his boss kept saying he'd be happy but no amount Sad He finally got it and we are both very happy.

My problem is, now DH has gone through the wanting to buy everything under the sun because he "earned" it. Which he did, but I have to be the nag that says, uhm, we have a lot of things that need to be paid off with your hard earned $$, sorry but we need to pretend you don't have that money. I hate having to be the bum out.

Well congrats to YH!!!! raises are awesome, especially with one of you at home!!!

I think this is going to be us, too. He really wants to take vacations, but I am afraid I am going to have to be the Debbie Downer who's like "We need to save more for retirement and our "forever" house and a new car, and we need to add to the grocery and cat budgets (yay inflation and having a sick cat), and we should probably add to the gift budget...sooooo, that leaves about $5 towards the vacation fund."

Oh and I am like YH Embarrassed If it wasn't for my DH, we'd probably have no money. He keeps me in check and I am so happy he does.

  • Not quite the same, but a couple of times DH has gotten a performance bonus (don't get too excited -- it's $100 pre-tax) and I'll ask him what the bonus was for and he'll say "I don't know."  Really?  Um, ok.

I hope your DH's raise is a good one!

HOORAY for raises for both your households!!!  Here's my thinking - IF the raise allows you pay off debt or save for something long-term, it puts you in a better financial position.  While it's not as "fun" as a vacation, it certainly reduces long-term stress.  I'd take that over a short-term fun event!  You guys are awesome for keeping the long-term in mind.  :-)

After reading this, I thought it's obvious who does the finances in your house.  I'm in charge of that job too.
