Grrrrr stupid H move

H left a garage door open all night. I normally lock my car every time I leave it in the garage, and set the alarm; however, we went out to dinner last night and H drove my car, and he never locks it.

Someone came in our garage and riffled through our cars, took H's pike pass, and threw stuff all over our cars.

I'm pretty pissed. I ALWAYS lock my car for this very reason. When we first moved here, we didn't have a key to the door to the garage (it doesn't have a door directly into the house) and I left my car unlocked ONE time, and someone came in and laid the seat down. It was so weird, and I've locked it ever since. H never locks his car.

I hope they took all his change. I didn't have any. They left the suckers that were in there, though. Otherwise, this is a very safe neighborhood and this just irks me to no end.

  • I'm sorry someone went through your car. I know that feels like you have been violated. DH forgot to lock his truck before he left town for work and someone broke into it while M and I were home alone. Very scary!

  • I realized when I left to go have lunch with H that the jerks stole my retractable auxiliary cable that I use to plug my iPhone into the stereo. It cost me $1.50, plus cheap shipping (they cost upwards of $20 in store around here) so I was definitely angry about that. Moreso with the stupid kids that stole it than H. It was an honest mistake, and hopefully one that won't happen again.

He alerted the PikePass people that his was stolen and they are watching it. What a weird thing to take. They monitor those things.

  • I always lock my car in the garage too; DH isn't so good at remembering. Every now and and then I'll go to throw something in the recycling bin in the evening and discover that DH left the garage door open.

So far, nothing has happened; we also live in a fairly safe neighborhood. I'm more worried about someone stealing our bikes than breaking into our cars.

  • Oh no! I am so sorry!  My H used to be really bad about leaving his truck in our driveway, unlocked, with the GARAGE DOOR OPENER INSIDE HIS TRUCK.  I finally started locking his truck and pulling out the garage door opener each night before we went to bed. It was irritating to me that he didn't get how unsafe this was.  Nothing ever happened but you never know. I am glad both of you are safe and that your property wasn't significantly vandalized.
  • DH doesn't lock the car/truck in public parking lots. Drives me nuts!

To be fair, though, I left a backpack in the front seat once, which got our car broken into when we lived in a condo complex. Bastards got 3 NPR cassettes, an SAT prep book from when I was tutoring, and about 6 tampons. I hope they were insanely disappointed by their haul.

lol what a strange group of things to steal!

Yes, we were lucky they didn't take H's bike, or the power washer, any of the tools, or any of the other stuff in the garage. They took change and a few small, replaceable items. I think they were just kids. It's a safe neighborhood, with mischievous young'ns, I think.

Yeah, I found the spread out across the yard, so it was definitely kids. Unfortunately, they broke that tiny window in the car (the old smoker's window) which costs like $485.) :(

  • H has done that before, too. I'm glad that everything is OK [as OK as it can be] and that there wasn't significant damage.
