Wedding Dress

Did anyone keep their wedding dress or get rid of it? I am not sure what to do with mine. I thought about putting it on Craigs List but not sure.

Re: Wedding Dress

  • I still have mine.  While we were on our honeymoon, my mom had it cleaned, preserved, and boxed up.  It's in a huge box though, and it is taking up a lot of room in one of my closets.

Sometimes I wonder why I'm keeping it.  I have no idea what I intend to do with it in the future.  But I don't know that I like the idea of getting ride of it either.  So, it remains in a box in my closet.

Good question.  I'm looking forward to hearing what others have done.

  • Mine is still zipped up in its bag. It hasnt been dry cleaned or anything. Its got some dirt on the bottom of the skirt part/bottom of dress in one spot but that's it.

  • Mine is hanging in the spare bedroom's closet.

When we moved, we actually considered throwing it away.  It is stained and ripped from my wedding night.  (Spilled a margarita down the front of it and my dad stepped on my train.  Smile

We left for our honeymoon about 5 hours after our reception ended, so the dress probably just sat on the floor in my bedroom in a ball for 8 days.  When we got home we just moved it to the basement.  So it was never cleaned, mended, or preserved.

I have no idea why we've kept it.  I told H to toss it when we were packing the old house up to move into the new one, but he couldn't do it.

    Obviously I can't sell it - it's ruined.

    And so it hangs...

  • I still have mine--cleaned and preserved in a box. I also can't foresee any real reason why I'm keeping it, but my mom made the dress for me so there is a lot of sentimental value. The thing is we don't want any kids so even the unlikely chance that a daughter might wear it is out. We don't even have any nieces, only nephews. Who knows what will happen with it?
  • I haven't touched mine since the wedding.  I spilled some red wine down the front, so yeah.  It was a cheap-o David's Bridal dress, so eh.  The only reason I'm keeping it is to possibly use for a quilt or baptismal outfit.  It would be great if I could get the wine out and pass the dress down because I think it's a classic style, but I'm not going to be upset if that doesn't happen.

  • Mine is hanging in our attic. I tried to sell on craigslit, but no luck Sad
  • I've been thinking of trying to sell mine as well. I know some girl have done Trash the Dress for pictures and then throw it away. I also think that maybe I can donate it to Goodwill and then I can take it off my taxes. I still do want to put it on 1 more time though.

     Renewing vows?

  • Mine was dry cleaned and is hanging in the closet. If we ever have kids, I will have it made in to a bassinet set.

    That's a cool idea.

  • I just watched mine get shoved in abox with a bunch of winter coats. I always planned to do a trash the dress session, but I never got around to it.

  • Mine is clean and preserved in a box in my closet.  I'm sure my daughter won't wear it, but it will be fun to get it out and try it on with her when she gets engaged some day.  I'm now also thinking about calling up my friends and sitting around the house drinking and watching TV in it (like on Friends).  Kidding.

I thought a neat idea would be to turn the bottom into a christmas tree skirt.  I've have also heard of people using it as baptism gowns for their children.  That would require cutting it up though.  I'm not ready to do that, even though I never see myself wearing it again.

  • Mine is cleaned, but not preserved. Brian didn't want it to get packed away in a box. I have shared this before here, but for the last two years, I have put it on on our annv. date. The girls think it is cool.
  • I second the GNO idea.

I love that you put it on every anniversary!! So adorable that your girls are into it.

It didn't happen for the 2nd annv (3 months post baby) and our 3rd annv - 10 days post baby.  Looking at that sentence makes me have one of those moments "holy crap, I did have my girls close together." hee hee

  • Mine is hanging in the guest room closet.  I was going to have it preserved, but I never got around to it.  I don't have any plans for it, but I did think it was cool to put on my mom's dress when I was engaged, so I'll probably keep it just to show our kids.
  • I'm keeping mine.  I did a lot of searching to find the right dress & I love it too much to get rid of it.  I remember special dress up in my mom's wedding dress when I was little, so hopefully I can have it around for that if nothing else.  I've done 3 trash the dress sessions in it (one with a group of my month Knotties, one that my DH shot, & one with my BFF) but it still looks new after washing.  If I can still fit in it for my 5th and/or 10th anniversaries, I might just do TTD sessions then, because I enjoy doing the photo shoots so much.

What about a GR-Nestie group TTD for people who wanted one but never got around to it?  The knottie shoot we did in Vegas was really fun.
