Help: Make your own beer?

Isn't there a place in the midcoast/southern Maine where you can go make your own beer? It's my brother and father's birthdays this week and I thought it'd be a nice gift to send them to make some beer.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • I am interested to hear responses too. DH would love this!

Last week I came across a website of a brewery, I believe in VT, that does this. Trouble was that you had to go back a few weeks later to pick it up, so that wouldn't work to try to do while on vacation, etc.

  • I know there is a place where you can make your own wine in the MidCoast area (ahem, MIL), and I think there is a place to do beer as well. Pretty sure DH checked into this @ one point when he started brewing- he's coming into port today, so I will check with him unless someone else has the info on it. Great idea for a birthday present!

  • If you can't find a place, I had given my dad one of those Mr. Beer kits quite a few years back and for every holiday I give him some new refills for it.  I know it's taboo among people that brew beer the traditional way, but it was a huge hit with my dad.  When I was still living in NY, every couple of months or so, we'd get together to brew some and it's fun now to talk to him on the phone the day after he's started a new batch.  Quick, easy and foolproof...and the beer is pretty good!

  • I just googled and this came up for NH- didn't see one in Maine. http://www.incredibrew.com/

  • There is one in NH, incredibrew, and it seems great. Its just really far, and you do have to go back 2 weeks later to pick it up. Looks like a blast though. They have brewfests too, where you make a bunch with other people and you get a variety pack (much cheaper), but they are during the week at like 6, which is hard for any of us to do. Hmmm. I'll keep searching. Thanks ladies.

  • We make our own beer at home.  Not sure what is available in ME, but our local beer store sells everything you need to make beer and also does demos about once a month.

  • I know there is a place in Bangor (Central Street Farmhouse) that has beer brewing and wine making workshops. I don't know if you make them there or how it works...plus it's in Bangor and not midcoast or southern like you said...I'm not help!
