Glass cleaner that doesn't streak?

I've tried using 50/50 vinegar and water and it leaves it super streaky. Does anyone have any recipes that aren't streaky?

  • Have you tried using newspaper with the vinegar solution instead of a cloth?

We don't get the newspaper, so I haven't been able to try it.

  • I just read in Real Simple this morning about someone having success with rubbing alcohol.  I have no idea, however, if this would be considered a 'green' cleaner.

  • I clean my granite with a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and water.  No streaks.

You should buy one out of the machine. It will last you awhile. Once you try newspaper and vinegar, I promise you'll never go back.

  • Def try drying with newspaper!
  • I use all vinegar, or mostly vinegar.  Our water sucks and causes the streaking.

  • I use vinegar and newspaper and don't have any streak issues.
  • I just use water and a microfiber cloth.  Works great.

  • You should try the Norwex Glass Cleaning Cloth.  Its amazing.  You just use water and wring it out really well. Its great on mirrors, glass and polishing your sinks and faucets.

  • I'd suggest adding a bit of soap to your vinegar/water mixture and wash your glass a few times with that.

I've read that glass cleaners such as Windex leave a residue on glass which, surprise surprise, only Windex/etc can remove.  So what you need to do is use a mixture with something that will cut the residue and remove it.  Once you've done that, the vinegar/water should work.

Also I tend to kind of "buff out" my windows lol.  I use two cloths when cleaning the glass -- the first one for the vinegar/water, and the second one is dry and I give the window a quick wipe-down with it using a circular motion before the glass is totally dry.

  • I actually have something that works SO WELL, please email me. And yes, I sell it --BUT if you do not like it, I will buy it back. Seriously.

This started for me because I have a glass-top table in my kitchen. I don't know what I was thinking a decade ago when I bought that. I have kids! Stupid!

And for TEN YEARS I have wiped that table down with everything from Windex to newspapers to paper towels to my mom's vinegar mix. Sometimes fine, but usually streaky.

Oh -- and it's in a window nook -- so lotsa sunny light -- YAY! -- to make the streaks even more visble.

My friend gave me these cloths and I AM NOT JOKING -- I used them with just water and it was perfect. I even called my mom -- which if you knew me, I don't usually get this excited about cleaning!. Then I went around the house cleaning every glass thing I could find. With JUST Water. (Like a crazy person, kinda.) But I swear by these cloths ...
