what should we do with this room?

we are in the process of buying this gorgeous house; we are currently renting and have never had so much room!

the picture is of the front door entry and the "formal living/dining" area.  Right now they have it set up as a playroom and dining area.  We plan to put our dining table in the same place they have theirs, but what can we do with the other area? There is already an office in the house and we don't have children yet.  I guess we could make it a formal living room but it seems like we'd waste the space since we'll always be in the kitchen/living room.  Any ideas much appreciated! TIA! (btw, I tried to PIP but I clicked insert and nothing happened.....sorry!)

Re: what should we do with this room?

  • I would actually turn the table the other direction, or put a chair and a half/something comfy over by the window.
    Twin boys due 7/25/12
  • pool table room
  • I would turn the table the other direction, too.

There would still be some extra space, but maybe a couple of upholstered chairs with a small table, and a nice wine rack/bar kind of thing could make it a nice lounge type sitting area.  Just a nice cozy spot away from the TV, etc.

  • I love the archways!

Maybe put a chaise lounge and a small table in the playroom area and make it a reading spot? It looks like it gets great natural light!
