African Violet Limp

Hello,

I bought a violet about 8 months ago,. After the original flowers died, it remained very healthy but did not get new buds till now. However, despite the fact that the new buds keep growing a lot of the violets leaves have turned an almost-brown color and gone completely limp. I cut them off but more go limp. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

TIA!

Re: African Violet Limp

  • Are you getting liquid on the leaves? I've never grown AVs, but my mother does. She waters them from the bottom on a plate and always does well with them.

  • You have to remember that it came from greenhouse conditions so unless you maintain those conditions you should expect that over time it may not look quite as good as when you bought it.  Google for specific care instructions to see how close you are coming to the instructions.  I've found it important not to over water my African violet.  It is a succulent so I've found it doesn't need as much water as other house plants.  I always check to see how dry the soil is before I water.  When I've messed up and overwatered is when my plant goes a little limp.  A little fertilizer and an east facing window gives me long periods of blooms.
