Kennel / Dog Sitter

We just booked a trip for the end of May and I'm getting a little worried about what we're going to do with our dog. She's been kenneled a few times up in Michigan and I'm nervous about finding a good one here. Anyone know of any good ones near Iowa City.

She doesn't do well with other dogs which throws out some of the obvious ones. I liked the looks of Lucky Paws but their website says any dog they take in must get along with other dogs. So frustrating. She did great with the people at the one up north, she just couldn't be left loose with other dogs.

We thought about a pet sitter too if anyone know of a good one. TIA!

Re: Kennel / Dog Sitter

  • The only lady we have taken our dogs too lives in Peoria and does it out of her home. Sorry I don't have any IC recs, but I know how hard it is to find a place that your pet will be safe and have fun at.
  • I just found a website called sitter city that has links to 20 pet sitters in Iowa City. Hopefully that will work.

  • Your dog doesn't get along with ANY other dogs, or just unfamiliar ones?

I trade dog sitting with a good friend who also has 2 dogs. We just put the 4 dogs in my house and they all hang out. They had to get used to each other but they were fine after that. My fluffy dog HATES other dogs when we're out and about but adjusts to having them in our house (eventually). What kind of dog do you have?

I'd be willing to consider dog sitting swapping if the above would work....

  • Thanks but the offer but right now I really don't trust her with any dogs. Any little move by another dog that she sees as a threat sets her off right now. We've gotten her to be ok around my parents' dog but that's the only on so far. We're hopping working with a trainer will help get rid of some of her aggression.

I think we found a dog sitter who lives close-by and will just stop over a few times a day to let her out, feed her, etc. I feel a lot better about this than the kennel. I was just having a minor panic attach about it with the earlier post :)
