Help- Feeling a bit incompetent!
We had a doctors appointment with our birth mom yesterday! We found out she's dilated 1 cm, 75% effaced, and the baby is "very deep" in her pelvis (head down). So my question (I know it's not an exact science) but what does this mean in terms of time? (I know what the effacing and dilation mean). She's 37 weeks 3 days today, and some people we talked to last night said she may not make it to her Tuesday apt. To me it just seemed normal like we were on track. Any thoughts? BTW we are totally ready for baby E to be here- so that's not an issue.
Re: Help- Feeling a bit incompetent!
I was .5cm dilated and 80% effaced for 3 weeks. I ended up being 5 days late...so I don't think it really means anything time wise.
How exciting for you though!
I'm with the others... you just NEVER know. Be on your toes... this won't be the first time she keeps you guessing.
God Bless this beautiful gift!!
Honest answer - it means nothing.
I've know people who have not been dilated/effaced at all, and went into labour the same day. I've also know people who have been 5cms 100% effaced for weeks.
You never know. She's going to come when she is good and ready!
So, prepare for it to be any day now, but expect to still wait at least a few more weeks just in case.
ETA - I can't wait for her to arrive, Jenn!
I agree with PP's. Just wanted to say how excited I am for you and your DH, and that I am way jealous of all pg ladies with head down babies. lol
Can't wait to meet my baby boy!
Really dilation/effacement doesn't mean anything...I've known moms walking around at 5cm and pretty well effaced that went to 42 weeks.
It's just dependent on when labor starts. So it could be soon, or it could be 3 weeks from now
ETA and I'm SO excited for you!
I got nothing but a big, fat smile for this post!!
ETA: And yes, everyone else is right. I had contractions off and on for weeks, and was stuck at right about where she is at now for weeks. Super frustrating!! But it's all good because Bella knew just when she needed to come, and it will be the same for yours!! I seriously can't wait though!!
