Name help?

*sorry for the baby post for those totally not into baby posts*

So K and I were out with friends last night and got the typical million questions about when is due date, boy/girl, names...etc.  And we came to find out that neither of us is particularly thrilled with the names on our short list...but I didn't bring it up cuz he just thinks I'm crazy right about now and he didn't bring it up cuz he didn't want to make me crazy.  So, help?  (You girls are a lot saner than the girls on the baby boards - I trust you).

We have Andrew picked out for a middle name after my Papa who I was really close to, and Burke is our last name.  We were trying to stick with an Irish first name since he's Irish, but I think we're pretty much open to anything.  I'm trying to avoid the more popular names - don't really want my kid to be one of a dozen Aidans in his class.  We did have it narrowed down to Brady, Ethan or Mason, but those are out the window now.  (I should probably point out that it's a boy, but we haven't told any of our family or friends that it's a boy, so please no fb mentions...they'll find out when he's born).

 Any suggestions?

Re: Name help?

  • My favorite Irish male name is Declan.

  • One of my favorites is Colin. I also like Connor.
  • Hmm... I have Irish friends whose names/kids names are Connor, Ciaran (pronounced Keer-on), Declan, Niall, Nevil, Gerard (pronounced Jared).  Any of those jump out at ya? :-)

  • I had friends in HS who were twins and their names were Tiernan and Kiernan. Tiernan was also the name of a love interest in one of my favorite books.

And I've always liked the name Ronan.

However, if I were to get KU and have a boy, his name would be Matthew. If he were to have a little brother (because my numbers are either 0 or 2), little brother would be named Thomas. Joseph was a close runner up. I am WAY traditional with boys' names.

ETA: I hate how Twilight kinda ruined the name Cullen. I like that as a first name. I also like Twilight, but I would never want it to be suggested that I named a child after characters in Twilight.

  • I LOVED Brady!  But being from NE I couldn't because people who keep saying "You just named him that after Tom Brady" (This said in annoying voice) . Actually this kid who works with Greg is named brady and I don;t like him so he ruined the name for me.  But Susie I still think it is cute.

Greg is named after his dad, different middle, So he wants to do the same thing if we have a boy.

    I also really like Christian.

Hubby's mom side of fam is 100% irish so naming a kid without an irish name is very unheard of for them! We're already looking at irish names for future kids (I'm part irish but not as much as hubby obviously)  So here's a list of the irish boy names (some from Hubby's family and some just ones that we like).
