New to VA and it is hard to not have friends

So I lived in WA all of my life and 8 weeks after we got married we moved to VA to be closer to his family. We have been here for 4 months and I still do not have any friends and it is getting to me. I live in Fredericksburg and it is so different than WA and I don't know where anything is. I was thinking of coming to the GTG but I don't even know where it is located or how to get there. Has anyone else moved to VA and if so how long did it take you to get use to it?

Megan =)

  • Welcome to Va.  It's difficult to move to any area.  Have you looked at any area churches/religious organizations? Also, try volunteering as well that could be a great way to make friends with similar interests.

  • I am moving to VA this summer with DH and DC and I am worried that this will be me as well. My husband, bless is heart went out and bought me a garmin GPS so I can "get lost and still find your way" or go explore to find things and still find my way home. Have you considered that? Also, I've already been researching mommy groups. I hope to get into a couple as soon as I get there so I can at least meet someone! Maybe that could work for you too?

    Good luck!

  • I've lived in Virginia my whole life, but Richmond for 9 years and I still wouldn't say that I have any close friends. I think it's just hard to make friends, and I have a hard time finding women close to my age.

    The GTG would be pretty far for you from Fredericksburg (it's 90 mins from me in Richmond). Maybe we should look at planning one in Richmond so it's more central to those out west and up north.

  • I'm new to VA as well. (this month). I'm great at networking but it's always hard moving to a new area. I plan on getting into activites on meetup.com as well as FINALLY persuing some activites I've always wanted to try. (capoeira and Krav maga). The best thing I can say is get out....don't sit in the house. :-)
  • I've lived in Hampton, VA since December and I haven't met a since person, other than husband's coworkers. >.<
