International adoptions are very difficult to complete. You need a homestudy done specifically for the country you are adopting from (so ours wouldn't count). Before you can even be accepted by an agency the US government has to clear you to be able to bring in an infant from another country. The wait time between application and bringing home a kid can be between 1 -3 years. Also they cost between $25,000-$35,000 (not including travel) depending on the country.
We have considered adopting from Mali, which is a much less expensive, and the wait time is almost nothing, however we've committed ourselves to the Foster Care system, so I guess this is where we are.
If things don't get better soon, we will move on.
