DH almost had a heart attack this morning.

Ever since Alex climbed out of his crib several months back and went into a toddler bed, we knew we were on borrowed time as far as an escape. With gates being somewhat expensive, we decided we would wait until he showed us we needed to get one...but he really hasn't shown us that he can open a door quite yet. He definitely understands the mechanics of how you do it, just not the strength or ability to do it yet.

This morning, we heard him playing and banging his door at 6:30. That's a bit earlier than we like to get up and actually rare for him, so we just let him play. he will usually wake up and then play around in his room a little. He has also recently discovered that he can lift his windowshade and he will actually stand under it and gaze out the window for 10-20 minutes very quietly. (I have an oddly peaceful child sometimes, I don't know if he meditates or what)

Anywho, he was banging, and then it got quiet, and he made a little noise, and it got quiet again, so DH turned to me in bed and told me how sometimes he finds him in the morning gazing out the window. Okay, fine.

DH gets up about 20 minutes later, still no noise from Alex, opens the door and gasps. Of course, I have horrible images run through my head...but no, the door is open and there's no sign of Alex. He bounds down the stairs...no Alex in the kitchen, dining room, or waving bye bye to pee pee and flushing repeatedly in the bathroom. So he runs down into the bottom floor and finds Alex.

He's sitting in the corner of the sectional, playing with my laptop, quiet and quite content.

He is his father's son. Sigh. Time to get that gate, I guess.
