Water in finished basement?

We came back today from out of state visiting a very ill family member to find the sump pump over flowed - not super horrible but enough that certain sections of carpet are extremely wet/saturated - H thinks we can do ourselves - I want to call someone. I was thinking Coit (?) but I don't know how much these place cost - any recs or ideas?

With everything going on I am so overwhelmed - thanks for any help.

Re: Water in finished basement?

  • If you have a shop vac, you can pull a lot of water out of the carpet yourselves.  My recommendation would be to decide fast though and get it out of your carpet before it starts growing things and smelling funky.
  • Ditto the shop vac. Turn on fans facing the wet carpet to dry it out faster too. You can also use a steam cleaner to suck out the water.

  • I had to deal with this when I lived in Fargo during one of the floods, shop vac out as much water as you can, you can rent one of those huge floor fans and get a de-humidifier down there.   You might need to pull up that section of the carpet so you can get the pad dry otherwise you will get mold, also if you do that wash the floor with a bleach solution.  Good luck!  Oh the joys of homeownership :)

This exactly.  This will prevent the most moisture rentention and mold growth.
