movin on up

Good Morning ladies!

DH and I live in Newport News and I just accepted a transfer job with my company which moves us to Richmond (back to where I grew up)!  So I'll be making the move in 2 weeks and DH will follow in June when our current lease is up!

I'm excited to be moving back Smile

Re: movin on up

  • How exciting!

Do you know where in Richmond you'll be moving to? I live in the Far West end right now, but DH and I are looking at renting a house closer to Parham and Patterson.

  • We'll be living in the townhouse my Mom currently owns...she and her FI are buying a house together and move in next month.

We'll be off of Hungry near Parham!

  • Well that's nice that you won't have to search for a place to live. I think Hungary intersects pretty far down, but you're close to my office.

You probably know your way around at least if you grew up around here. How long have you been away?

  • I grew up in Hanover so Henrico is a new area for me, but w/ my Mom living in that area for the past few years I've learned how to get around a little bit.

I've been gone for 7 years and DH has never left Newport News so it'll be a huge change for him!

  • Ah, Richmond is better than Newport News anyways, he'll love it! DH and I both grew up in Yorktown, so I'm qualified to make that statement.

Does he already have a job lined up or will he be searching immediately? I love Henrico, I've lived in the county for 6 years and worked for them for 3, so I may be biased.

And totally off topic, you're dog is adorable. I think I asked before, but I don't know if you saw it (or if you responded and I didn't see it) but is s/he a boxer?

  • Molly is our 11yr old moody pit/lab mix...she was our ring bearer Smile

We also have a 10 yr old cat named Kitty who is very cuddly...she's my baby

  • DH is looking for a new job, but his current one is based out of Richmond and they've guaranteed him a job w/ the move.  I'd rather he find a new job that wasn't so physically taxing on him (right now he installs washer/dryers at apt complexes).

  • Aw, I really like Molly's coloring.

We have a 1 & 1/2 year old boxer/beagle mix (Dakota) and 2 & 1/2 year old orange tabby cat (Leo). My kitty is crazy. He was gift from DH when we were still dating and got got Dakota together when he was a pup.

  • DH wants an orange tabby, but we've never been able to have more than 2 pets where we've lived...that's all about to change co we'll probably end up w/ an orange tabby before too long.  I'd love another dog, but Molly isn't very sociable anymore.

  • Yeah, we only got our dog because our landlords really didn't care when we asked a long time ago. The cat was expensive just because of my lease agreement at the time, but he himself was free. We found some people who had a litter and were giving them away, so we snatched him up. He was the only orange tabby in a litter of 9. And our dog and cat are not friends, so I know we won't be getting anymore pets. As it is we have to block off part of the house as a sanctuary for Leo so he can hide when the dog tries to intimidate him.

  • Welcome home!!  I've lived in Richmond for 5 years now.  Initially it was only a temporary move but I've grown to really really like it!  I got a job offer near where I grew up in Maryland and I will be moving in May.  I will totally miss Richmond!
