My first time composting project is working!

For over a year i have been researching about composting, but never did it due to fear of not being able to get it to work correctly.  Well about a month ago i decided to just do it! I got my plastic rubbermaid bin, DH drilled lots of air holes, filled it with dead leaves, shredded newspaper and lots of food scraps. Every few days i go outside to 'play' with it. Just the other day i noticed that when i was mixing it, some steam came up and that area was warm! I was so excited (i no, dork!).  Its just so amazing how simple and effective composting is. I hope that anyone reading this that is having any type of fear of starting an outside compost understands that there is nothing to be afraid of. Just give it a try and it will surprise you.

  • Congrats!  I don't get why composting is so scary to some people, it's just letting organic matter rot.  I don't see how it's possible to mess it up, you just can't compost some things (meat, dairy, or oil).  It's fun!  I love composting.  I was in CA visting a friend last week, they have an apartment so they can't compost.  It was so weird to throw kitchen scraps away!
