Two house questions

1. Where do you keep your cat's litter box?  Right now we have it in the (finished) basement on the tile near the wood stove.  It works out alright but when the basement bathroom is finished I think we will move it in there.

2. We are in the process of putting laminate hardwood floors throughout our kitchen and dining room (they are connected a la raised ranch style home).  We are putting some tile in the dining room in front of the sliding glass door.  DH mentioned putting some tile in front of the sink in the kitchen for splattering water, etc.  I think it will look strange and I already have a rug there anyway.  Thoughts?

Re: Two house questions

  • 1.  Litter box is in my laundry room.  A room where I'm really only in once a week.

    2. I agree with you.  A rug should be sufficient.  I wouldn't make the extra work and tile around the kitchen sink.  Just keep the laminate.  Be careful though not to get it wet - the laminate will be ruined if your dishwasher overflows or something.

  • 1. our littler box is in the garage- we have a kitty door so the cat can go in and out

    2. I agree with you- dont tile in front of the sink...it will break up the floor and the flow...it makes sense in front of the sliding glass door but not in the kitchen...

  • 1. our litter box is down in the basement, and we have created a kitty area down there that prevents her from full access to the basement (she liked to go explore and leave "presents" in various hiding spots. Ew.) So the downside is when we want to go down and do laundry or get anything we have to go through the x-pen gate, but it's not a big deal.

    2. I wouldn't break up the kitchen flooring with tile. I think it would look odd, and be too much work. As you mentioned, you'd have a rug there anyway. Plus- with the transition between the wood and tile I assume there'd be a threshhold of some type which would bug me if I was standing in front of the sink and stood on it or something.
