How did the phone meeting go with the stationery rep?
Re: Lauren
it was ok. the lady said she mostly sells preprinted invitations to stores. you know where the design is already printed, but not your information? Then the stores themselves print your actual information. She said that's a dying thing though and most stores are getting out of that type of setup.
She recommended that we put together a really nice book that has all of our designs, options, etc and she'd take it around to the stores she works with. She said most stores are moving towards that. People can shop through all the different designers' books and then place their order through the store.
We've actually already been working on putting together a book. We're meeting with our first store (it's a monogram/baby gift shop) on Thursday. She's already agreed to sell our stuff, but we need to hash out all the details and show her our book. If that goes well, then we'll start approaching other shops around town.
Also, the sales rep would want 15% of all sales. That's sort of a lot when you factor in giving the store a cut, her a cut, paying our printer and splitting what's leftover between the two of us. And our products aren't that expensive to begin with!
But it's good. The only way we learn is to explore all opportunities!
thanks for asking
