Mass Mommas - sales tax Q

I know the sales tax in MA isn't quite as straightforward as it is in ME - where one is taxed on everything.  I remember noticing that things considered "essentials" aren't taxed, or are only taxed above a certain threshold price.

Any idea if baby gear is considered "essentials"?  I'm hoping to get away from my increasingly annoying H this weekend to visit my BFF in Western MA, and we'll do some shopping.  Since I live in "tax free" NH, it wouldn't make sense to buy things in a sales tax state if it's not exempt.

  • Honestly, I don't know for sure but I think they would be taxed. Clothes and food are considered essentials.
