BR: introducing table food

What age did you introduce table food to your LO?  What are good things to start off with first? Kiley is 7 months and we are using 2nd stage baby food and cereal and she is doing great with those so I was thinking maybe she is ready for the next step.  Also when did they start feeding themself?  I  sometimes feel so lost and clueless about these things! Embarrassed Thanks for any help!

Re: BR: introducing table food

  • Girl, the whole feeding thing can get majorly confusing and make your head spin, so don't feel silly.

We used the BLW approach, so Neena started eating table foods and feeding herself ~ 6 months. I know a few other ladies on the board used this approach, as well. I HIGHLY reccomend it as I'm positive it has helped Neena become the awesome eater she is today. Just be sure to follow the BLW guidelines. YOu can always start by introducing baby mum mums.

Quite honeslty, I just made sure to follow Neena's cues and I went with the flow of things.

  • I kind of followed BLW- I would give her the stage 2foods, and after awhile (7-8mths) she started to get bored. So we did both, I'd lay chunks of food out, and let her pick them up herself, she loved feeding herself!!! Thought she was pretty hot stuff! LOL

I started with beans, and really ground meat, just small enough that she could move it around in her mouth and what not. El is a great eater too! This is a great approch. Becuase it totally helps THEM be in charge of eating. That little bit of indpendence, you know?
