How much do you use?
Someone told me it'll help with keeping clothes brighter, and whites whiter. Is this true? I am desperate for something that isn't full of fragrances because my husband has a really bad allergic reaction to everything I've tried to use except Free & Clear detergent... which doesn't keep our clothes looking the best.
TIA!

Re: Vinegar in laundry ?s
I use vinegar in almost every load of laundry. I don't really measure, but I used to. I use about a 1/2 cup in a normal large load. If I wash dog bedding I use a full cup (vinegar is a natural odor fighter).
I actually wouldn't say that it whitens or brightens. The effect vinegar has is that it "strips away" the residue left behind by detergents and prior used softeners. I also wash my husband's white t-shirts inside out w/a bit more vinegar and use the pre-soak option. It seems to eat away the "funk" that his deodorant and sweat have created. On newer shirts it prevents it from building up in the first place.
Thanks for the replies ladies. I'll give it a go. We live in an apartment so sunning isn't really an option unfortunately.
Is there anything I can do to keep clothes brighter? This might be dumb, but does the fact that I only wash using cold have anything to do with it?
I've been using Biokleen's oxygen bleach and it seems to work pretty well.

Thanks for the rec! I visited Bio Kleen's website and there's actually a store down the street from me that carries their products.
I'll check it out!
