Does anyone own a business?

I just started an online beauty pageant.

www.misssupremeperfection.com

My problem is that I dont know how to advertize. I bought up to $100 of adverts on googlewords and I just bought 100 post cards to cold mail to people in my area code.

What are other inexpensive ways that you get the name of your company out there?

How do you get more hits on google?

Any tips?

Re: Does anyone own a business?

  • I don't have a business and have never had to advertise for one so don't have much help for you.

Did you start this on your own or did you buy a franchise or the name somewhere?  Maybe they can help you with how to advertise...

  • I started it on my own.

  • I have no advice on marketing, aside from the fact that having a professional/polished website is the biggest priority for an online-only business... No point in spending money to drive ppl to your website if they aren't impressed with what they see when they get there.

Also, I'm just all kinds of confused, here! I don't really know who your target demographic is because I'm not sure I understand the concept..Maybe you can help...

So this is basically a photo contest? Except at the main level you get a rhinestone crown instead of an actual prize? And then if you want a real prize you pay to enter again? From a business perspective, I can certainly see how that would make you money if people enter (I assume market value for a crown and a trophy could only be $5-10, especially in bulk), but I'm curious about what kind of market research you did that brought you to this decision of starting this pageant. Is there really a market for this? (not a rhetorical question! :) )

  • There are other businesses like mine out there. There are many girls and women that really want to be pageant girls- especially in the south. Doing real pageants is very expesnive.

The prize is the tiara and the "title." for the main level and other prizes if they wish to enter higher levels.

Tell me how to improve my site if you dont think it's pleasing.

  • I read that you have family experience in pageants and what not, but I guess my question is when it comes to these pageants, aren't there qualifying rounds that get you into bigger pageants? And aren't they all sanctioned? Would being awarded something from your company hold any weight in the pageant world? If it's not a sanctioned event, I don't see why anyone would spend their money entering your contest and not some other that would give them the option to progress onto another level (city to state to country, etc).

  • There's a lot that I can get into about search engine optimization, but you can do a lot on the admin side of your site to help. Here's a decent link I found that  describes a variety of options for you:http://www.wordsinarow.com/seo.html

Did you set up the site yourself? Or did someone else do it for you? If someone else did it for you, they should be able to help you with this as well. GL!

  • Thank your for all of your help ladies!

I put the site together myself and know nothing about web site management.

I have only dont real pageants in my life time, not on line. but, I have seen many on line and I can imagine that the people who cannot/will not spend the money for "go to" pageants or girls who would not other wise do well in regular pageants would enjoy one like mine. I guess we will see. I just got the idea one day, bought the web name, made the site and started it up.

Now I have $300 worth of prizes sitting on my floor and I need people to enter to break even. Guess I didnt think it through.  Thats why I really need people to get to the site to enter but I dont want to pay hundreds more to do so.
