Baby friendly vacation spots?

H and I are looking to take a week vacation in June. I was originally thinking Disney because we love Disney and it would be easy to bring the babies. Downside is that it will be crowded and hot.

We don't want to fly or be in the car more than 4-5 hours max so probably somewhere in Florida. All I think of for Florida vacations are Disney or beach. Are there any other possibilities?

Re: Baby friendly vacation spots?

  • I really loved St Augustine.  There is a lot of walking you can do there, it's very charming.  There are great restaurants and the fountain of youth is there.  It's a pretty cheesy tourist spot but still fun to check out.

  • I 2nd St. Augustine!  Not sure how far of a drive that is for you though.

Or the Ft. Walton/Destin area is nice too!

I love this!! H and I are going to a wedding in July with the babies and I was thinking of maybe extending that into our vacation week. It would be July 4th though...I wonder if there are B&B's that allow kids!! Thanks for the idea!

  • I don't recommend Disney.  We just did Disney with all three kids and honestly it was a nightmare.  Granted, you won't have a sleep-deprived, overstimulated toddler with you.  :)  Just the logistics of feeding, changing, cat napping all day were not fun.  If do go, make sure you have a lightweight stroller if you aren't staying at a hotel with the monorail or boat.

How about some kind of beach condo?  This way you can go home for naps and feed them in your condo.  You can take breaks from the beach, you can stroll around and shop.  Go to dinner or lunches around their schedule.

Just a funny story:  While at Disney, I ran Mason to the bathroom and changed his wet diaper, got out and took Audrey with a messy diaper.  Then when I returned to the stoller Mason had a messy diaper.  After three trips to change babies in less than 10 mintues I was done.

I meant to say the wedding is in Jacksonville so we will be close to St. Augustine.

  • The Marriott on Marco Island is beautiful and very kid/baby friendly.
  • I'm sure there must be a B&B that allows kids, there are a ton of B&B's and I would say it's very kid friendly there.  I don't remember which one we stayed at but you don't want that one, it was haunted :)  It had the word carraige in it.  Maybe it is just because we did the ghost tour and I had it on the brain, but our shower definately turned on during the middle of the night!

Wow!! Sounds like a pretty hectic day! That's sort of how I picture it going. I like the beach idea, but H thinks it will be boring and we might as well stay home and go to the beach. That is his ridiculous logic anyway.

Thanks! I was looking on hotels.com and the Hilton is running some big summer specials. It seems too good to be true compared to the Marriot prices..have you seen the Hilton? Any reasons why it is so much less expensive? The pics/reviews look good online.

No clue as to why.....we are Marriott rewards members so we try to stay at Marriotts wherever we travel.  We stayed here last year when, um, Bobby's passport was expired and we were denied boarding on the catamaran to the Bahamas....lol remember that scenario?  LOL

Anyway I can only give an awesome testimonial for the MI Marriott.  I don't even know where the Hilton was but I am sure it is nice as well.

  • I second Marco Island....love it there. We stay at the Marco Beach Ocean Resort, going back in July can't wait!

  • St. Augustine is fun but VERY hot in July(as is anywhere but still) we went for our 1st anniversary and we were seriously dripping just from walking around for a little bit..

What about Anna Maria Island? Lots to do there and you could stay at a cute little beach place with a pool to keep cool :-)

  • Check out these hotels in Orlando. They both have Lazy Rivers and lots to do right at the resort, which can make it a totally relaxing vacation. You can put baby in a floaty thing and go round and round all day :-)

We stayed at the Marriott when I was huge and pregnant in July and that lazy river was HEAVEN. (We found a good deal somewhere, so it wasn't too bad, but I do recommend trying to find a deal that includes their amazing - and expensive - breakfast.)

Is the breakfast you are talking about at Citron? There is a pretty good rate with AAA!

I can second the MI Marriott.  I know the prices are pretty high though.  After they did a huge renovation a few years ago, they really jacked up the rates.  My H and I just booked a long weekend there, and it was close to $500 a night.  We're high up in the rewards chain thanks to H's business travel, so we ended up using points.  I've never seen the Hilton there.

  • Oh yes, love the MI Marriott!  Not that your babies can enjoy it now, but there are tons of activities planned for kids each day!  We will definitely be taking the twins there when they get older!

  • Are you looking to stick to Florida?  I love Hilton Head, SC and it's very baby friendly.

  • Too bad you don't want to fly :(  I was going to rec Ricardo, Texas because I could use some company and the baby needs a play date :P

Ha.  Other than my parents coming to visit a few times a year, I would find it hard to believe that anyone comes here for vacation!  Well, except if you want to go hunting.  And you're name is *** Cheney.....
