Just wondering if you had a diary growing up?
I had one that was a 1 Year Diary that I started in 1991, so I was around 8. I actually wrote in it for nearly 10 years.
In high school I got one that was more like a journal you'd see now. I wrote in that during college. Not a whole lot of stuff, but kind of embarrassing stuff. And of course H went through and read it one day!
He just didn't get why I didn't want him to read it. Men!
Oh, and of course I did the customary "Dear Diary" and I even signed it a couple different ways. Like "Bye Diary", or "Love Danni".
Re: Did you have a diary?
Oh, and nowadays I have an online journal that I use.
I mostly go there to vent, but I also have put personal stuff in there. H knows my log-in name, but I don't have my password stored or written down anywhere, so he can't get in.
My Profile
i have a couple that'd start and then never finish. the best though are the ones when i'm in elementary school. basically the entries go something like this:
"dear diary,
today i sat next to elizabeth. we traded erasers. then i played on the playground wiht michelle. she's coming over after school. i hope bethany (sister) doesnt bug us.
sincerely,
amanda"
by far the best entry though is one near xmas when my gparents were visiting and i wanted to do something for them. like i wanted to perform or something..not sure. but im listing these things i want to do, like a play, or read a book, or play piano and i'm all "but i cant do those things bc bethany can't do them. she cant do ANYTHING!". yeah..i totally hated my sister.
Poor sister.
I journaled quite a bit growing up.
The best though is my dad - he has always been a really good journal keeper, and he'll read out loud to us and they are hilarious. My favorite are his journals from when he started dating my mom. So much fun.
I kept a diary when I was like 10, but it was nothing too serious. Probaly just swooning over Jonathan Brandis or someone.
I did carry books around through highschool though. I used to write a lot of poetry and random thoughts, so I always had a small notebook or something on me. None of it was private though. I had a lot of friends who woud write or doodle in them as well. Sonce so many of them have moved away or passed away, I have a lot of great momentos.
In high school we'd pass notes. I kept the ones that were last with me. After high school I went through them all. I kept any that my friend who died my junior year wrote in. A special connection to her.
My Profile
I always love rereading things people wrote to me. For a while, my friends would randomly cut off a lock of their hair, and tape it into my book (maybe we were being Renaissance romantics or something) It was always odd, but my friends had crazy hair colours, so it was more a rainbow than anything. This past winter, a girl I used to be good friends with passed away. I had a piece of her hair, and gave it to her BFF for the memorial photo collage. I was happy I had something of hers that was so personal and meant so much.I miss a lot of my friends, and it's a great way of remembering them all.
I'm sorry about your friend that passed away your junior year. It's wonderful that you saved her notes.
