bedroom wall decor

I'm looking for d?cor inspiration for our master (albeit very small) bedroom, and was wondering about the following:

- do you have any wall d?cor above your bed?
- how about the wall facing your bed?

Re: bedroom wall decor

  • We're so lame about getting stuff on the walls that six years into our house and we still barely have any artwork up.  Lame-o.

The only thing we have hanging in our bedroom are two painted silk scrolls with images of bamboo on them.  We bought them from an art student when we were in China.  I haven't found anything I loved to put over our headboard.

I had considered doing one of those picture frame wall collages on the wall opposite the bed but, again, haven't actually done anything.  Like this:

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • Well, we have separate bedrooms because of DH's medical bed so I have stuff above my bed. I have a framed poster of a painting of Anne of Green Gables and a vintage advertisement for Chamonix/Mont Blanc from when the Olympics were there in 1924. I bought it when I as there. I have a very small apt bedroom so that takes up one whole wall. They are both 18 X 24. 2 other walls are taken up by windows, the other by a bookcase and dresser. DH's room is also very small. Next to his bed is a framed Simpson's poster, a Guinness poster and Pearl Jam poster
  • This might be lame, but I don't have art above our bed because I've heard of them falling and hitting your head hahaha... across from the bed is a dresser with a large mirror on top, so no art there either. One of the side walls has a framed photo.

  • We have a Persian rug hanging above our bed that my dad brought back from Kuwait when he was working there and gave us as a wedding gift. We actually stood on it during our wedding ceremony so it has extra special significance to us. It's beautiful and one of my most prized possessions. On the opposite wall is a framed picture of my grandparents on their wedding day, and another Persian rug that I love too, but not as much as the other one.

  • Well, since we moved recently, we don't yet, but we will.

I have these little framed his and hers signs on patterned paper that go above each side of our bed. So cute. There's a photo I like that I'm planning to have blown up and hung across from the bed (or maybe in the living room).

You should ask this on the decorating board though. Those ladies have some great ideas. Free printable subway art, for instance (similar to Wordle, didn't Stef print out her wedding vows with Wordle as wall art?) You could also do letters of your name with a gallery wall, like the photo below.

ETA: There's also the stick-on words like this. There's stick-on images too. If you have an Uppercase Living dealer in your area you can buy locally.

  • We had a friend do the mural...from a wall decal I liked. She has a business, and she's in the bay area, page me if you want info :) The letters are from Marshals, painted the color I wanted...and those are some E-pics hanging in the middle. Eventually I want to change it to some kind of art.

  • We're pretty lame too and don't have much on our walls. In the bedroom, we have nothing above the bed because DH says it's an earthquake hazard  :-/  Facing the bed is our closet, and no room for any wall decor. On other walls, we have a couple of framed posters - a Monet and a Picasso. Nothing fancy.
  • We have these wrought iron candle holders.  I'll have to take a pic.  We have four of them.
  • Thanks for all the suggestions!

    We don't have anything either.

I don't think it's lame, though. From a feng-shui point of view, it's better (for safety reason). I've spent the night, once, at someone's place. The board that hides the window curtain fell in the middle of the night right by my pillow. A nail nearly missed my eye. That was a really weird night.

  • For those worried about having frames above your bed just don't have your bed all the way against the wall. Leave a couple of inches of space. If you have knick knacks above your bed you'd want to leave a little more space; more like a foot. I personally wouldn't put things that are heavy.
  • We have a very large painting that spans the width of Queen size bed hanging above it. Across right now we have nothing mainly because there's a dresser with a TV (not flat screen) and I can't decide how I want to decorate it since the space is awkward.

We've actually recently come into a lot of wall art. My mother is an artist and I went through all of her old sketchbooks and storage bins of paintings and took a ton of things. I also buy postcards from art museums and frame them for little things.
