S/O Sarge's ? about Wedding Dresses

imagesarges05girl:

The grass is always greener, y'know? Stick out tongue

And speaking of wedding dresses, am I the only one who HASN'T had their dress preserved yet? I want to go try it on, but I'm afraid I've gained too much weight, it won't fit, and then I'll be depressed for a week.

No, you're not the only one.  But I can bet I'm the only one who has her dress dangling off the hanger, in the bag, and in a ball in the back corner of her closet. And occasionally my cat will take a nap on it. Embarrassed

And I promise you that I loved my dress and I loved it even more when I saw it in the pictures.

I am really hoping that I can get this baby weight off by September and do some TTD photos then get it preserved.  But I think that's being reallllllly wishful!

Re: S/O Sarge's ? about Wedding Dresses

  • I didn't preserve mine because of the money it costs. I really need to get on it though. Mine is in the bag hanging in the closet (no kitty beds here!). I'm actually afraid to open the bag. I'm kinda worried it'll be discolored or smell or something!

I'd love to do a TTD/RTD shoot, but I'm so anal retentive I'd be afraid of getting it dirty. I was a mess the day of the wedding (well, until the alcohol kicked in and my bustle broke).

  • I just reminded Mark that we need to do this asap! Now that we are moving... I will have motivation to actually get this done.

  • I haven't preserved mine, don't plan on it, and it's fine.  I had it sitting in my old bedroom at my parents' (which gets no heat--you can store meat in that room) for a year prior to the wedding--in the bag--and it was fine, so eh. Not to mention it costs an arm and a leg to do.
  • *raises hand* my dress is still in it's garment bag in my closet. I want to be able to wear it whenever I want, I'd be too sad looking at it through a tiny window in a box. I'd want to take it out.
  • Mine's in it's bag in the spare room. I don't know what I'm going to do with it.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • I answered in the other post.. but I haven't cleaned/preserved mine yet either! H keeps asking me when I plan on doing that. I'll get to it!

This is me too. Mine will NEVER fit again but I loved it so much, I can't imagine just looking at it through a peeky hole.Mine was in the bag for a year before hand so I'm sure it's fine. I never open it and it's in a canvas bag in a dry/pretty cold room. Who knows. I'm sure I'll regret it in a few years if I haven't taken care of it by then.

Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • My response is pretty much word for word what Michelle's was in the previous post. It's been in the garment bag laying in the guest room bed since 09.07.09.

I keep waiting to get it cleaned/preserved until after my TTD shoot. But a) I no longer fit in my dress and b) the wedding was almost 2 years ago, I think I missed the TTD boat.

  • Mine is also hanging in the garment bag in the closet in our spare bedroom. And I am also scared to try it on and find out it doesn't fit. I'd be kind of devastated :o( Eventually I'll get it preserved.

  • Mine is just hanging in our guest closet. I am thinking of donating it to a good cause. I save some fabric from it (during alterations) in case I ever have a daughter who wants to wrap her bouquet in it or something. I don't think I want to keep it, but am not sure what to do with it.

  • I answered in the other post too, but I haven't had mine done either. The only reason I haven't sold the dress is so that Ellie can play dress up with it if she wants to. I used to play dress up with my mom's dress and I loved it, so I figure maybe Ellie will want to do the same.
  • I never even got mine cleaned. Embarrassed My wedding bouquet is also still hanging upside down from my parents banisters. I can't find a display case big enough for it, so my stepdad was going to make one for me. Still hasn't happened.
  • Wow, this thread makes me feel SO much better about not having mine done yet.  It's hanging downstairs in our second guest room, so it's kind of "out of sight, out of mind" and I keep forgetting about it.

This is my answer too.  I LOVE my dress, but still have no clue what to do with it.

  • Mine was in a bag in a closet up until two weeks ago when my mom got on my case about not having cleaned it yet.  I looked at her and smiled and said, "Mom, if you want it cleaned and preserved so badly, you do it." :)  So she DID!  She took it to the place I bought it and paid $250 to have it cleaned and boxed up and everything.  I feel like I should pay her back, and probably will, but I think it's funny that it was bugging her so much that I hadn't cleaned it that she went ahead and had it done herself.

I still do plan to take it out of the box once in a while and try it on.  It's a corset, so it should be pretty forgiving.

Speaking of that, Tonia, what are you talking about? Your dress will totally fit you again after that baby is born, you are TINY!

  • Wow. I guess I'm not the only one! I'm so glad you're all slackers like me! Stick out tongue

Maybe we should have a G2G and wear our ill-fitting dresses! We could have a great big Niner TTD!

  • Smo, Riss, Tgoff's dresses would be 'different' kind of wedding dress I would want.

However, not many people had color and I can't give up my color. I don't like all white wedding dress, okay well I like them but I love dresses with color. Mine was perfect. It had a blue strip at the top and a blue strip all around the bottom. The strip at the top went into the blue corset in the back of the dress. Then along the front and back was blue detailing studded with sparkly things. My veil had a thin blue strip along both layers' ends and the optional spaghetti straps of the dress (which I didn't use because they were too big) were the same color blue.

I LOVE this idea. Let's do it.
