Organic List

I remember someone posted a list of foods that you should eat organic. (does that sentence even make sense...I'm sleep deprived today!)

I remember milk and eggs-but what were the other main ones? I wish G could eat only organic but that gets a bit expensive so we are going to start with the main ones and go from there.

Also, is there a brand that your kids seem to like better? Especially with the organic whole milk (or soy-depending on how G's allergy test goes)

We use Horizon Milk because I'm the picky one. It tastes freshest to be without the milk "funk" taste that I don't like. I also like that you can get it with DHA.

I've also found Trader Joe's to have some of the most inexpensive organics.

  • I buy a lot of frozen organic fruits and veggies.  So much cheaper than fresh and just as good.  TJ's has mixed veggies for less than $2 per bag and Cole loves them.  I also make him mini smoothies & popsicles with the organic frozen fruit (strawberries, mangos & mixed berries with a fresh banana and organic full fat yogurt).  Just as good as fresh but without the price tag!  The frozen berries are awesome in pancakes/waffles too.  Be creative and you can definitely afford organic!!!

  • I don't buy organic for us, but I will definitely buy organic milk when Lucas starts drinking cow's milk.

I think a good rule of thumb for buying organic items (if you're trying to be selective) is to buy things that you eat with the skin on.  Strawberries, apples, etc are items that you essentially eat 'whole' where as a banana or orange you are eating the 'insides' only.  Make sense?
