Baby Stuff - an observation
We need all the room we can get in our house, and now that Hayden has outgrown a few things we can get rid of them. But everytime I go to offer it, I am paralyzed and afraid to send it on its way! I mean, we agree that we are done having children, but for some reason I keep thinking what if I need it?! Argh. Anyone else have trouble parting with the baby stuff?
Re: Baby Stuff - an observation
Are you talking about clothes or gear? I was thiiissss close to giving away our bulky strollers (a single and a tandem Graco) just to have to pull them out again to cart around the PINK CAST. Ugh! I so don't miss this lugging around...but now I have to do it again. ~sigh~
We also have an offsite storage (as you know...lol) to house some of our things, including baby stuff, but even that is getting overwhelming. It's almost discouraging, but sooner or later I'm gonna have to cinch the belt and start tossing or giving things away. LOL!
It is easy for me to get rid of stuff. I have a couple people at work who know some families in serious need financially with newborns. I pass everything along to them these days.
We are about to get rid of our highchairs in favor of the Stokke seats so those will be gone, too. Next up, cribs - which I paid far too much for - escpecially since my boys have slept in them so little!
The thing is - what ever you get rid of will be replaced with something else anyways!
We haven't gotten rid of any of Jacob's baby things, but then again we want more kids.
We started talking about getting Jacob a twin size bed and putting away his crib/toddler bed. ?I told DH I am not ready for that.?
I've thought of selling on consignment or on craigslist, but I'm lazy. I'd much rather give than sell.
Alisa - I'm gonna email you about those families in need. Thanks.
I've been ready to get rid of all the baby stuff but DH and MIL are holding on saying "what if BIL or my sister" might need it. Ummm BIL is waiting 3 years to have kids and my sister is not even dating anyone and kids anytime within the next 3 years are not in her list of things to do. Besides I would rather get new things for their babies anyway.
Meanwhile this house is getting full of toys and gear. I at least got to pass down some of the new born from Rj's time clothes to a friend who is about to her baby boy sometime in the next 2 weeks. Some were only worn like once or twice since he got huge so fast.
With birthdays coming up-I am thinking of sneaking out some of the toys not noticed anymore to the salvation army or goodwill. The strollers I can still see us using but the rest can go.?
Yeah, I have a hard time getting rid of things. Although I am 99.9% sure we are done with having children, I find it difficult to get rid of the 0 -9 month clothing. I also still have all of their big strollers, baby toys and junk around the house. What is weird is that my husband is the one that wants to keep it around, which does not help the situation either.
In any case, (although it is not baby gear / clothing) I was able to get rid of / part with all of my maternity clothes.
I've been saying the same thing. I doubt we will have another baby, even though I have frozen embroys left, so I am telling myself I am saving my stuff for my sisters -neither whom are married nor seriously dating! I think it's hard to let go since you have so many memories attached to the stuff!
If you decide to sell, check out LA kids consignment, you take all the stuff to them and price it yourself, you then get 65% of anything you sell, or 70% if you volunteer and help out.
