I am trying to plan our summer vaca. We are cruise people, but are always saying that we'd like to try something new (an AI). I would love to try an AI this summer, but I don't really know where to begin looking. I have heard that you can go for about the same price as a cruise, but from what I am seeing, once I add in airfare, it seems wayyy more. Just to get a cruise idea, I was looking at 7 nights out of Miami for about $800 per person. Plus gas to Miami and a hotel for the night before. I can find AI's that look great (I would need to do more reviewing obviously) for less than $100 pp/per night, but then the airfare is just as much as the stay. We don't really care where we go. And the only requirement that I have is that they have more than one restaraunt which is included, with a large variety of choices. I have heard that some places include activities, while others must all be paid for, so I would be willing to pay a little more for a place that includes some that we would like. We will be going sometime from mid-June to the beginning of August.
Sooo, if you have been to an AI can you please tell me where you went and what you paid.
Re: All-Inclusive vacation help
You should ask this on the travel board. But, I'm interested in the responses. Let me know what they say if you XP over there.
We're also cruise people, but have been thinking about an AI as well. We haven't done a ton of research, but it seems the Dominican Rep. has a lot of good deals. Have you checked there?
My ILs went to an AI Riu (sp?) in Playa de something? (somewhere in Mexico). It's been rather unsafe there lately for tourists. I'm sure you'd be fine if you stayed in the resort, but I don't think I'd want to go there right now.
LoL, done.
I did XP over there. I have gotten a few responses. Hopefully I get some more because I am really confused with it all. I have looked into the DR because I heard they have great prices, along with Mexico. It seems Jamica is more expensive. But from there IDK where to go. Where to book the AI? Should I book the stay with the airfare? Or seperatly? A cruise just seems so much easier.
Kids or no kids?
If no kids I recommend Couples resorts in Jamaica. We stayed at Couples Swept Away resort in Negril for our honeymoon and loved it. We're going back in May their resort that's in Ocho Rios.

The swept away resort is usually the most expensive but you can get a fantastic deal if you book another resort or do their secret rendezvous program. It still may be cheaper for a cruise...not sure because we've never been on one. But it's so relaxing and there are no kids at this resort.
We went to Sandals Grande in Jamaica for our HM, i think we paid 2300 for 2 people for 5 nights though out of Tampa. It was a great time. I think we spent another $300 or so on Spa treatments and excursions.
We are going to Majestic Elegance Punta Cana in April, that one was pricier but it is right before easter so I'm guessing that is why.
I know you can go to Cancun and Mayan Riviera for a bit cheaper but my H was against going to Mexico so I didnt do much research on it.
We also went to Sandals Grande in Ocho Rios, Jamaica for our honeymoon and loved it!! Def recommend..we paid around the same price so worth it! :-)
We stayed at the Paradisus Playa Conchal in Costa Rica and it was the bomb. There were 4 or 5 restaurants that I remember and they were pretty much all delicious plus tons of snack bars and casual places for lunch. We stayed in their adults only section which was worth it because we had our own pool for our building where no kids were allowed. There were shows at night and a casino. It also included some activities like a sunset boat tour you could sign up for and it was free. Also the flights to CR were pretty reasonable. I hope to go back some day, it was such an amazing place.
We considered going to the Occidental Xcaret in Mexico and A ventura Spa Palace as well. We've had friends stay at both of these and they raved abou tthem.
In Dec. our in laws are taking us on a family vacation to Dreams Punta Cana (DR). I've looked on the website and it looks pretty amazing. I obviously can't revue it yet though.
AI's are definitely more expensive than cruises since being in Florida we do not have to fly to a port like most people do. And we are like you guys, we go on cruises a lot.. but it's so fun to switch it up sometimes!
