In February, I will be joining with thousands of people nationwide to walk in the AFSP Baldwin Park 2009 Out of the Darkness Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and we would appreciate any support that you give for this worthwhile cause. I started this team in honor of my "sister", Tamara Anne, who died by suicide on February 8, 2002. I chose Tamara's Tigers as the name for our team, after the Chinese zodiac sign that Tamara and I share. This year, the walk will be taking place on what would have been Tamara's 30th birthday. I look forward to celebrating Tamara's birthday with the rest of our team as we walk in her honor.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 32,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
Any contribution will help the work of AFSP, and all donations are 100% tax deductible. I am also looking for additional members to join my team. All that is needed is a commitment to walk at the event, and try to help raise funds to reach our goal.

Re: Walk for suicide prevention **long**
What a great post and info. I will either walk or donate and also pass on the word too. I am so sorry to hear about your sister- it will be really good to do something like the walk on her birthday.
And on a side note- we have some things in common- we were married on the same day and I am a mental health counselor so we work in the same field!!
-Linda
Thank you both!
Melissa, thanks for joining the team!
Linda - hope you can walk and/or donate!! I just got my Registered Clinical Social Work Intern number - so 2 years until i get my LCSW! (on a side note, there is a glitch in the nest.... whenever you click on someones profile your own wedding date is listed as theirs.... - I was married 12/30/07... how about you?) Where do you work? I just started back at Florida Hospital and I am loving it! Although i am not in a clinical position, i am getting my supervision here for free... so hopefully i can move to a clinical role when i am licensed
Maybe this will end up being a mini CFL nestie GTG :-)
