good deal or no?

I had someone come out and draw up a plan for my back yard which is now dirt. I like in the southwest so we had to be creative with lack of grass.

My yard is approximately 1800 sq. ft. (I guess its an OKAY size).

He wants to build a gazebo/pergola with a flagstone floor, fire place in the corner, a flag stone walkway to a flagstone patio/dining area, two patches of grass (may go with a synthetic lawn), 2 raised flower beds, 1 tree, and the rest rock with a few bushes here and there. Some drip irrigation included. He is quoting approx. 5k for materials. and 5 k for labor.

thoughts?

thanks!

That is a phenomenal deal IMO. Depending on prices of available materials and labor in my area, I would charge at least 4x as much for that size project. Maybe 6x as much.

You didn't mention anything about his credentials. Is he licensed? Does he have insurance (liability, comp, E&O)? Is he educated? I charge according to the fact that I am licensed, insured, and well educated.
