Ideas Needed for Toursity things to do

Hi ladies--

hoping you can give me some ideas.  My BIL and SIL are coming in from Savannah on Thursday for a quick weekend visit.  My BIL is from Rhodey so it isn't like he hasn't seen everything already...but my SIL is from NC and has only been to RI once a couple years ago.

They are already spending Friday in Boston/Cambridge visiting her brother...we WERE going to hit Newport on Saturday b/c Cindy hasn't seen it yet and she is also a professor of historical preservation and furniture design at SCAD in Savannah...I thought it was PERFECT for her.

Well now with the predicted rain that puts a bit of a damper on Saturday...sure we can do the mansions inside but it kind of defeats the purpose of Newport...no walking around and enjoying it.  We're doing an adults dinner at Camille's Saturday night but it's teh day I'm lost with.  Do you have any ideas?  Do you think Newport is still doable even with the rain?  I mean, sure it is but the walking around on Cliff Walk and the like is kind of out of the question...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • How about the RISD museum?
  • Slater Mill ... it's actually very interesting. We went with my family right after Thanksgiving. DH is a native RIer and had never been!

  • I think you can still do Newport - like you said do the mansions as planned.  Take a drive around Ocean drive.

FYI - the yearly family rate for the Preservation society is a good deal, at least for you being local, if you come back and see a few others.

It's still pretty dead around town, so if it's raining you can find parking pretty much everywhere.

Also - it's restaurant week in Newport if you're looking for a good lunch!

  • Could also hit up the vineyards or brewery as well for something to do indoors.
