Moms of boys???

Do you have any secrets to potty training? ?We are trying, he will sit on the potty but doesn't like to go peepee in the potty.

Anything I can do to help him? ?I have tried stickers (no candy, he doesn't eat candy) as rewards.

Thanks in advance.?

Re: Moms of boys???

  • Have no tips to share as I have yet to start training my little one (will probably start trying after he turns 2 in December), but am interested to hear what others have to share :-)!

    Good luck!

  • My SIL used cheerios in the toilet and told him to aim and fire.  He liked it and it worked.  Who knows...maybe worth a try....
  • I was going to suggest the same as Julie. My cousin did that and it worked wonders.
  • Can I chime in?  I love the cherrios idea!!!  How fun is that!  Actually I wouldn't know...LOL!

Why I thought to try and introduce the potty to Jos and 2 is beyond me.  Like it was some magic number.  She was stubborn but would surprise us with a few successes on the way.  We had used fruit snacks and stickers.  Nothing worked until she was 3 and we used toys...lots of small parts to a kitchen play set, so that was it for us.  I really think it was because by 3 she was ready, even tho I was thinking 2.  She somehow figured out how to "feel" her body (the need to go) and it was much easier this way.

    HTH!  Good luck!

  • I am with Mia - your gorgeous boy may just be too young.
  • I agree with the fact he may be too young, that is why we are really not trying to push it. ?He does wear pull ups so he can "feel"wet, he is getting better at starting to communicate.

Was just looking for other ideas.

Alisa - thanks for the compliment.?

  • Secrets? Only 1, time.

I tried potty training my boy when he was 2 and did the whole shabang and celebration and treats when he did his duty in the potty, but he was very inconsistent.  Very.

Now that he will be turning 3 soon, I can tell, that he is more inclined to.  Also, when he does use the potty, I only encourage him with a big high five, big hug and praise.  Personally, I don't want to give him treats for every pee or poo anymore.  The teachers at his school are potty training him also and they don't give out treats either.

  • I personally think that DH started too early with Rj re: potty training. It took a good 2 years to get things right. Time is all it takes but don't give up just keep at it and patience helps. I remember one time I heard him screaming and running around the hallways saying "I need to poo poo ". I rushed down the stairs only see a brown smear across the rug followed by a brown log that led to the bathroom where I saw him sitting on this potty chair....it was a Kodak moment for me.
