Keurig ettiquette

We have a keurig in our office.  It really bugs me when I go to make my afternoon hot chocolate & find a used k cup still in the machine.  Wouldn't you think it would be polite to throw your k cup out after making your beverage?  Or maybe it's just because I can't stand my coworkers & any little thing they do bugs me.

Re: Keurig ettiquette

  • We don't have a Keurig, but they do the same thing here with the coffee filter/grounds.  Here's what gets my goat:  To use the coffee pot, you have to remove it from under the machine.  Fine, but when you remove the pot, you should dump the grounds.  If not, it continuously drips onto the table, ruining the table/floor/other items on the table.  It is practically the only thing that will get my blood boiling before 9am.  And it happens at least 2x week, despite my ranting.

  • I'm glad it's not just me.  I find it rather irritating, but I don't know who the guilty person is to blame.

  • This is why I love having my own office.

I can do whatever I want and no one says anything.

  • I would think they would clean up after themselves.

Back in the day when I had a job, I had a water fountain in my office. It was the only one behind the front desk for employees to use. Well, since it was a hotel, we had lots of people that worked at night. I can't tell you how many times I came into work to find chunky soup clogging the drain to the water fountain! It was soo gross! Your post reminded me of all those mornings finding that!

My husband does this and it drives me freaking crazy.

  • I think with the Keurig it isn't even close to as bad as with a regular pot (like Nicole said).  I sometimes (okay...more like most often) forget to take mine out after.  But at home I am the only one who uses it (occasionally my H will) and at work I share it with the lady I teach with.  She sometimes brews coffee and leaves, and I find the full cup under the brewer LoL and I know me leaving my K-cup in doesn't bother either of them at all.

  • This happens on a daily basis at my office and it annoys me to no end!  So no, you're not alone in your annoyance with this situation.

My biggest Keurig-related issue is that my boss decides that he doesn't want to wait the extra two seconds at the end of the brewing for the "brew" light to turn off, which means that you can actually open the pod holder to remove your cup.  He'll just go ahead and open it up right as the cycle is winding down and leave the pod holder open.  So whenever the next person comes in, as soon as they put in their cup and close the machine, it goes into a tizzy!  It takes twice as long to make a cup of tea because the damn thing has to finish cycling and whatever else it does when it's done brewing, and then I have to open and close it like five times to get it to realize that there's a new cup in there!  Whew, sorry, haven't found anyone else to vent this frustration to yet :)
