Tourist and dog friendly recs around Ft Desoto
Hey West Coast nesties! DH and I are planning on coming over from Daytona for a few days late May for a mini-vacation. We're looking at camping in our RV at Fort Desoto and of course bringing our poodle Rufus. Can anyone recommend touristy activities in that area - St. Pete and surrounding areas? We're bringing our kayaks and between being out on the water in those, the dog beach and the trails around the park we should keep busy for a couple days. Dog friendly recs would be a bonus.
TIA!

I really like downtown St. Pete. We've dined at Red Mesa Cantina, my favorite restaurant there, with our pooch before on their outdoor patio. There are also tons of cafes along Central Ave and along the water where you could dine with your dog.

Have you already reserved your site at Ft. Desoto? My family camps there every Memorial weekend and I know from experience the sites are not easy to get. You have to reserve them 6 months in advance. With dogs at the campgrounds there is only 1 section you can have pets and he/she HAS to be on a leash at all times.
I always wanted to bring my dogs but we camp in another section and I would never be able to see all my family.
With the trails, dog beach/park, kayaks that should be plenty of fun. I dont know of other dog friendly things around there.
Im not much help, but if you need info about camping there im sure I can help.
Thanks!
Red Mesa Cantina is actually the only place I have eaten in that area. Stopped there with a friend and her dog. We'll probably meet up with them again there this trip - loved that place, food was soo good!
There are a couple openings as of now for a week or 2 before Memorial Day weekend on the water in the dog area. Also openings on the water for Memorial Day week, but we'd like to be home that weekend. I was really surprised to see openings there with this short of notice.
We're pretty new to camping, but love it! We're going to Tomoka SP next weekend to get back into camping since we haven't been since new years. So looking forward to it.
