Re: Where did you go for your honeymoon?

  • Vancouver Island in British Columbia. SUPER amazing if you are looking for something a little different.

Stayed at the the Wickanninnish Inn which is one of the top 5 hotels in North American and has the most AHH-mazing spa. We also spent time in Vancouver and Seattle. Lots of fun and very romantic.

  • We spent 10 days in Barcelona, Spain. It was amazing. I would highly recommend Spain.

What would you like to know? My Dad lives in Rio( as you probably know from my posts)  and we will be going back in October but this time about 6 of us. (1) If you have an American Passport you will need a Visa. The Brazilian Consulate is in Buckhead , across from Phipps Plaza in the same building as the restaurant AJA. You make an appointment , give them your documents, and you will get your Visa the exact same day.  Here is a link with Visa information:

Delta flies non-stop from Atlanta to Rio , Sao Paulo and Brasilia ( the capitol). I love Rio because you can hang out at the beach all day and then go out at night. If you need hotel recs for Rio let me know, we are renting an apartment when we go in October because it would be unfair to my Dad to have 6 people staying at his place. Also don't wear any gold on Copacabana and leave your engagement ring at home. You don't want to attract any attention. Finally the sex trade there is alive and well. Men come from the US and Europe to find "working ladies".

If you want to go to other parts of Brazil, I recommend GOL airlines.

Salvador was wonderful, the weather is perfect( all the time) and it's safer then Rio. Most people living there are Afro-Brazilians since it's port was used very often during the Slave Trade. There is a ton of history there, and the Market is built on top of where they would keep the slaves before auctioning them off.

If you decide to go to Rio or any part of Brazil page me anytime and I will help with what I can.  Oh I almost forgot, they don't speak nearly as much English in Brazil as they do in Europe so you need to learn some phrases in Brazilian Portugese.

  • A couple days in Rome, Italy, and then a 10-day Mediterranean cruise out of a nearby port that went to some ports in Italy, Greece, and Turkey. Loved it! It was on Celebrity Cruise Lines. I highly recommend!

  • Got married and stayed at Tensing Pen in Negril, Jamaica.  Loved it!
  • **Adding to Meredith's advice - definitely learn some Portuguese. We took classes at KSU continuing education (because I learn better in a classroom environment) and I picked up a good bit of it - enough to converse a little with others. Even though we were always with our friends who spoke both English and Portuguese, it helped to know a little. A class will also teach you some of the customs, etc. Unfortunately, I'm not very good with speaking it as I used to be, but I can still pick up the gist of our friends' convos in Port. If you know Spanish, you can understand a little of Portuguese, but they are indeed different (pronunciation, words, etc.).

Definitely be careful not to draw attention to yourself - no jewelry, electronics, etc. Our friends have told us many horror stories. You shouldn't be scared to go, but be on guard.

  • We went to St. Martin. We stayed on the Dutch side but drove over to the French side twice while we were there. Its a lovely island and people are very friendly. We always felt safe.

Ditto. Our last few trips to MX have been on the Yucatan, and we like it over there even better.

  • SFO + Napa right afterwards b/c I couldn't take off too long from work and then Costa Rica in the summer.
