IUD - getting one today

I've heard that there can be minor cramping from having one put in, should I take a tylenol or two ahead of time to help with it?  Or is it not that bad, just like minor period cramps?

Re: IUD - getting one today

  • IMO you can never have too much pain relief for those things.  lol!!! (yes I said that)

If you've got advil, it's a little better for muscle cramps. You can take up to 800mg.

    Good luck!!!

I'm still pumping, will that be ok to take?  I know, it's sad that I don't know this Embarrassed, but I've honestly just avoided taking medicine completely for this reason, even with the nasty cold bug I was bitten with.

Obviously I'm not a healthcare professional, but tylenol and ibuprofren are both okay to take while breastfeeding, especially when rarely done.

  • I just had the mirena put in a couple weeks ago- take like 800mg of ibuprofen/advil prior to going... i had some cramping for about an hour afterwards and then was fine! i love the iud!  i have been spotting since then but was told that was normal.  =)  good luck!
  • My doc told me to take the ibuprofen beforehand.  It's safe for BFing.  :)
